This is a short novel, but don‘t let that fool you into thinking it‘s an easy read. The ravages of war are a universal theme. What is most jarring is this oxymoron of a child soldier. As if children are not capable of doing what they have to in order to survive. How is Agu any different than other soldiers during war, expecting them to blindly follow orders, then return to normal once it‘s all “over?” This book is yet another that stays with you.
