New #library book day! I had to expand onto a second shelf again, thanks to my decision to browse a little after picking up my book on hold (tagged).
I‘ll certainly be prepared if the library has to close again, though I really hope that doesn‘t happen.
I really wanted to like this more, but I just felt meh once I finished.
The black and white artwork is whimsical and I found it refreshing to not have color.
The story follows a mix of traditional fairy tales without bringing anything new to the table.

Despite this color pic, most of this omnibus is black and white. Think of it as stories within a story. Each character has a story of how they ended up at Castle Waiting and they are revealed throughout the book. I‘m not sure if this book is meant for kids or adults, but I enjoyed it. #hoopla
One of the classic issues in any type of fairytale... *sigh*
Finished this last night with these two snuggly cuties. Enjoyable slice of life book set in the fairy tale world. What happens to the inhabitants of a town or castle after Happily Ever After? This tells that story through anecdotes and glimpses at the new residents of the Castle. Light on plot but I enjoyed spending time with these characters.
Needed something very different after Nos4a2. This is fitting my mood perfectly. Light and delightful.
Castle Waiting is a graphic narrative inspired by traditional fairy tales. Illustrated in black and white, the text is nonetheless vibrant in character and narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed the text, with the exception of its religious turn. For this reason i will avoid subsequent volumes - it‘s not a kind of myth making I support.

Friends, #comicthon's coming up FAST! Join us on November 26th for this one-day, comics-focused #readathon. Everything that falls under the comics umbrella is welcome, and there's no minimum reading time you should aim for. You can pop in and out all day if you have other stuff going on. The whole point is to have fun, read some comics, and share the experience with other Littens!
Please spread the word, too!

Have you all read Linda Medley's Castle Waiting? It's fantastic. I'm due for a re-read. #anditsaugust

#anditsaugust day 6: #comicsbywomen
One of the first comics I ever bought was Persepolis! It seems ages ago now...
And these days, some of the best comics are written by women!
I'm missing so many in this post, like Lumberjanes, Monstress, Nimona, books by the Tamakis, Lucy Knisley, Hope Larson, Sarah Andersen, Faith Erin Hicks and more!
I need to go back to this. Bought purely for the cover and title. Has anyone read this? #comicsbywomen #anditsaugust
Castle Waiting starts off strong, introducing really colorful characters and crazy stories based on faerie tales and myths. It seemed to set itself up to be a slice-of-life that takes place after the 'happily-ever-after' of most faerie tales. With strong female characters, and great set-up, it's shown itself to be one of my favorite comic titles I've read this year. It's also the 'C' title for the #ListyAtoZ challenge by @BookishMarginalia
#riotgrams freebie day! Getting ready to spend the afternoon reading 😋❤️
I love the characters in this book. They're all so interesting and fun interpretations of classic faerie tale characters.
It's been a while since I've read this one and since I have volume 2 now I think it's time to revisit 🤓😋
#maybookflowers #cliffhangers Not so much a cliffhanger with this graphic novel, but a number of loose ends. Which is why I was so glad there was a second volume! Still hoping for a third one day...
Enjoyed the quirky twist to classic fairy tales. Loved that I stumbled on library donations from the Small Print Expo. #isupport #smallpress
If Jane Yolen blurbs you for writing a killer feminist fantasy, you have my undivided attention.
Second hand bookstore book haul on the top and the bottom was the first mail arrival of 2017.
When you grab a book off your shelf thinking it's time for a #reread and you find an awesome long-lost #bookmark tucked inside 😽

I 💜💜💜 this series. It's got an everyday fairytale quality to it. Yes, it has allusions to and straight up retellings of some fairy tales, but it is definitely its own story peopled by all new characters. Geared towards kids, I believe that this is an all ages comic. Touching on subjects such as grief, tolerance, domestic violence, and bullying... we can all learn a lot from and enjoy the stories of Castle Waiting. Now on to volume 2!
Taking a brief break from work to read some more Castle Waiting. I agree with Jain that rainy days are good story days. Also, I think Sister Peace is my favorite 😄
This is such a fun read! Its cute and witty and feels like an everyday fairy tale. 😃
A bit of light reading for my evening 😃 I've been looking forward to this series for a while
