pickThis was an impulse buy when I was shopping for new lamps at Homesense ( TJ Maxx) where I spotted quite the collection of current books for sale ( I have to get my fix somewhere now that 🇨🇦 Costco doesn‘t sell books anymore 😢) this story follows the Christmas rom-com formula ( with some unsubtle nods to Love, Actually among others) and it‘s delightful ❤️
#fridayhappyreadinghour a friend gifted me with a Friday Happy reading hour glass so here I am breaking it in 🍷 with a plethora of candles burning. We had a transformer blow and then a bunch of trees go down in an ice storm. We currently have power but we are surrounded by people who don‘t 😬 the city and hydro workers are not having a relaxing Boxing Day ☹️

pickI'm always so cautious when I pick up a romance because I HATE when the inevitable breakup happens because two adults lack basic communication skills. So I went into this carefully but was pleasantly surprised at how this unfolded. It had a great cast of characters, really put me in the Christmas mood, and I loved the little tongue-in-cheek references to living in a Hallmark movie.
Another Bingo card filled! This is the one I had to redo, and it worked out pretty well. 😁
The book is a soft pick for me. The main characters both have some growing to do and have good personal arcs with their romance. But I was turned off by the constant fourth-wall breaking. “Oh this is just like a romance.“ “Oh, this is just like a Hallmark Christmas movie.“ I'm happier with the lampshade off!

pickI give this HEA props for being a story with a Christmas cover and setting maintaining a holiday spirit for its entirety. Not all holiday touted romance succeed to that end. The meet-cute was funny while the subsequent drama (monetary need to upkeep an old English estate) could have been sharper. But overall, the story of a one-and-done child actress of a holiday classic now all grown-up and hating all things seasonal was a fun read.
Had a difficult day today and all the books I‘m reading are just not what the mood calls for, so I‘m starting this #arc
Christmas romances are a big hit or miss for me, but this sounds good.
