From the bestselling author of Weyward, 2023s biggest debut, comes a new novel of mystery and magic, about four sisters separated by centuries, but bound together by the sea. 2019: Lucy awakens from a dream to find her hands around her ex-lovers throat. Horrified, she flees to her older sisters house on the Australian coast, hoping she can help explain the strangely vivid nightmare that preceded the attackbut Jess is nowhere to be found. As Lucy awaits her return, the rumors surrounding Jesss strange small town start to emerge. Numerous men have gone missing at sea, spread over decades. A tiny baby was found hidden in a cave. And sailors tell of hearing womens voices on the waves. Desperate for answers, Lucy finds and begins to read her sisters adolescent diary. 1999: Jess is a lonely sixteen-year-old in a rural town in the middle of the continent. Diagnosed with a rare allergy to water, she has always felt different, until her young, charming art teacher takes an interest in her drawings, seeing a power and maturity in themand in herthat no one else has. 1800: Twin sisters Mary and Eliza have been torn from their loving father in Ireland and forced onto a convict ship bound for Australia. For their entire lives, theyve feared the ocean, as their mother tragically drowned when they were just girls. Yet as the boat bears them further and further from all they know, they begin to notice changes in their bodies that they cant explain, and they feel the sea beginning to call to them... A breathtaking tale of female resilience and the bonds of sisterhood across time and space, The Sirens captures the power of dreams, and the mystery and magic of the sea.

'The Sirens' by Emilia Hart focuses on the bonds of sisterhood. I really enjoyed the relationships between Jess and Lucy and between Mary and Eliza. While these women were separated by centuries, they share commonality in the love they shared. I also enjoyed the siren folklore of Comber Bay. A solid work of women's fiction. This is the first book I read by Hart, but it won't be my last. 4 stars.

I loved this story and the themes that weaved through. Even as I guessed a few of the links and the stories possibilities, her wonderful writing kept this story vivid and drawing me back to my kobo each time I had to do something other than than reading. This one will have me gushing for a while.

Expected publication: April 1, 2025

I really enjoyed this book, told in alternating chapters from modern day/2019, and 1999, and 1800s all in Australia and it's waters. I found the cadence of the writing weaving the known history of women convict ships and transportation into a story with magical realism a unique way to shed light on a lesser known part of Australian history (for me as an American).

I read and loved this author's book Weyward. I didn't know exactly what to expect from this one but I did enjoy it also. It kept me turning the pages until the very ending which I did not see coming. Not that this is a thriller but still... I did not see that part coming.

5 stars
