Applesauce Weather
Applesauce Weather | Helen Frost
17 posts | 7 read | 1 to read
In a touching poetic novel, a fall apple ritual along with some inventive storytelling brings a family together as they grieve the loss of a beloved family member. When the first apple falls from the tree, Faith and Peter know that it s applesauce weather, even though Peter is getting a little old for such things. It also means Uncle Arthur should be here to tell his stories, with a twinkle in his eye as he spins tales about how he came to have a missing finger. But this is the first year without Aunt Lucy, and when Uncle Arthur arrives, there s no twinkle to be found and no stories waiting to be told. Faith is certain, though, that with a little love and patience, she and Peter might finally learn the truth about that missing finger. Paired with warm, expressive illustrations by Amy June Bates, this heartfelt tale by award-winning poet Helen Frost highlights the strength of family and the power of a good story."

#wondrouswednesday

1. I like to walk in the mornings & evenings when the weather is crisp & cool, go to the various pumpkin/corn maze farms, eat crisp fall apples, roast marshmallows, & look at the fall leaves. And of course, #HHS!

2. Weary

3. Network Effect & The Secret Lives of Planets

Chrissyreadit ha!!! we should meet at a maze - there are some fun ones!!! 1y

I haven't participated in one of these for a while but since both @jenniferw88 & @catsandbooks tagged me this morning, I decided to jump in!

I'm all about apples in the fall! I work at an orchard, but even growing up I always loved apples. My birthday is in October & I don't like pumpkin-flavored anything, so I've always embraced the apple side! 😂 So -

-Apple Orchard
-Stew
-Cinnamon Dolce
-Bonfires
-Apple Pie

Mehso-so

These poems had great rhythm, were easy to follow, easily relatable, and touching. It was heartwarming, and I would also use this book at a time where maybe a family unit is being taught.

This was a very enjoyable heartfelt poetry book. The book has a good rhythm and is very understandable for children. I feel that children can relate to this book and be engaged in it.

I think children would enjoy this because it has connection to family and they can relate. Also apple picking and apple sauce making is something children may find interest in.

I loved this book by one of my favorite novel-in-verse authors. This is a story of remembering and sharing memories after losing someone special. The story is told from four perspectives, each poem is identified by the name of the character telling that particular part. ❤️

The image is from the app Bookout. While many of the features included are found here in Litsy and Goodreads, I like Bookout for its lack of social-ness and these graphics😊

Lola Did you upgrade? I can't get these fancy stats on the free version I downloaded. Unless I'm missing something which is entirely possible 😐Addendum: it was me-found the stats on the free version 👍🏻 (edited) 8y
Peddler410 @Lola I did upgrade! And THEN I figured out how to get the graphics 🙃 But, I probably would have upgraded anyway. 8y
Lola @Peddler410 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the upgrade! 8y

I was introduced to Helen Frost's novels in verse about five years ago. So glad for this find for a slightly younger audience than I am used to for Frost. Can't wait to read this with my daughter.
