DallerGut Dream Department Store: The Dream You Ordered is Sold Out | Miye Lee
10 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
|| THE NO.1 KOREAN BESTSELLER WITH OVER A MILLION COPIES SOLD || In a mysterious town that lies hidden in our collective subconscious, there's a quaint little store where all kinds of dreams are sold ... Day and night, visitors both human and animal from all over the world shuffle in sleepily in their pyjamas, lining up to purchase their latest adventure. Each floor in the department store sells a special kind of dream, including nostalgic dreams about your childhood, trips you've taken, and delicious food you've eaten, as well as nightmares and more mysterious dreams. In Dallergut Dream Department Store we meet Penny an enthusiastic new hire; Dallergut, the flamboyant owner of the department store; Agnap Coco, producer of special dreams; Vigo Myers, an employee in the mystery department as well as a cast of curious, funny and strange clientele who regularly visit the store. When one of the most coveted and expensive dreams gets stolen during Penny's first week, we follow along with her as she tries to uncover the workings of this wonderfully whimsical world. A captivating story that will leave a lingering magical feeling in readers' minds, this is the first book in a bestselling duology for anyone exhausted from the reality of their daily life.

Mehso-so

I expected more. Probably because not one but TWO booksellers at Waterstones recommended it, and also... the cover. It's great.

This was cosy and sweet, but with next to no plot. The "stories" were bland and basic, and I found it hard to be bothered.

Meh.

Branwen I'm totally obsessed with this cover! I'm sorry the story didn't hold up, though! 😵‍💫 1mo

Didn't like this. It was, well, a bit rubbish really. There's no plot, just this single very good idea that is kinda cute & fun, I guess, but it goes nowhere & does nothing. A few predictable vignettes but nothing of substance. No conflict, no progression, no point. Just overly twee padding. Nicely written but, for me, it's empty, tedious & unsatisfying. Premise promises much but delivers a novel length blurb. I need a story!!!!

Shamelessly trying to import this trend from Insta. This is my post-cocktails Birmingham book haul 🍸💃

LIE THOSE BOOKS DOWN, LITSY! 🤣🤣

wanderinglynn Fun haul! 📚 4mo
Branwen Okay, I want to start doing this trend too! 🥰 So how does it work? Do you just pick a color theme and then lay down books? 3mo
RaeLovesToRead @Branwen Haha, no idea. Lie books down and take a picture, I presume 🤣🤣 I love doing it ❤️ 3mo

I had high hopes for this book and was convinced I was going to enjoy it after the first 50 pages or so but then it just fell flat for me. There were lots of nice moments in the book but it felt very disjointed and the switching of consciousness felt clunky to me. The main character Penny is nice enough but there is no substance to her and she just never quite gives the umph that you need from the leading lady.

readingjedi I have just this minute finished this one & I was also very disappointed! Very little substance. 4mo

What a dream-like book about the importance of dreams and a good night's sleep! Very moving once it comes to the dreamers' real life stories. The one about pet dreams might have been my favourite. Heart-warming, original and featuring an excited but adorably clueless MC who matches the reader's speed and wonder. And there's a second one coming!🤩

Also pictured: Kimchi fried rice with cheese topping 🍜

I already emersed myself into Korean literature last year and then some more, so this is my non-feasible reading stack for #foodandlit South Korea😅🇰🇷

In today‘s batch of new fiction - one of my most anticipated reads!

I should catalogue it… and not just sit at my desk reading it 🤔😇

julesG I'd sneak a read, too. 12mo

It‘s the first of December already😱 insane how this year is almost over. According to my list of unread physical books I‘ve read… 4 books this year 😂😂 maybe next year I‘ll be better at not adding to the pile in the same pace I‘m reading- but before my bookbuying ban I HAD to get this one- look at the pretty cover😍 I hope the story is as lovely!

AshleyHoss820 This looks ridiculously fun! 13mo
