This was a great listen that describes the experiences of the first six American women to be astronauts - Sally Ride, Judy Resnik, Anna Fisher, Kathy Sullivan, Shannon Lucid, and Rhea Seddon.

I couldn't put this down. It's a nonfiction account of NASA's first 6 female astronauts. They went through so much to break the glass ceiling all the way into space. There were moments when their story was infuriating because of what they had to put up with but I am so grateful for their fearless determination. These brilliant women were doctors & scientists long before joining NASA. Their dedication to the space prorgam paved the way for so many.

2nd 5 ⭐️ read for January, an audiobook. I‘m old enough to remember the Challenger explosion, which is toward the end of this book, but I didn‘t know anything before that. This is so interesting, I looked forward to the drive to & from work. These women are/were amazing, courageous, & way smarter than me.

Singout If you like that book, you‘d probably like this excellent one, the bio of female teacher and passenger Christa McAuliffe, recommended for #AuldLangSpine by @Amiable two years ago. 11mo
Scochrane26 @Singout Thanks, I‘ll look for that one. 11mo
Amiable I have this book sitting right on the top of my TBR stack! 11mo
Singout @Amiable Didn‘t you read it in 2021? 11mo
Amiable @Singout I read “The Burning Blue” in 2021. I have “The Six” in my stacks. 11mo

Excellent read about the first women astronauts..including a bit about the Mercury 13-women who went through the physiological and psychological testing in 1960, but were still excluded from the space program. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to learn more of about the female pioneers of NASA and all they went through to achieve their dreams.

I knew of Sally Ride, of course, and Judy Resnik, unfortunately because of the Challenger disaster, but it's a shame that i never knew about the other four women in this group. Fascinating book. So hard to read when you know the disaster coming at the end. These are/were amazing women.

This former Space Camper loved the story of the first six women astronauts! However I was walking my dog while listening to the Challenger disaster chapter and had to fight back tears. I read a whole book about Sally Ride last year, but I loved the equally inspiring stories of the five other women. The sexism they endured in the media and by a few colleagues was ridiculous. Plus some NASA folks were just clueless about women. See funny link ⬇️

I thought this would be better. I think I got information overload. Took me a week to read. It's about the first women astronauts. It covers from 1976 to 1986, when the Challenger disaster occured. The epilogue covers some later year stuff.

Tentative Publishing Date: 9/12/23

8th book for #SummerEndReadathon @TheSpineView
