In a dead-end town like Barwen a girl only has to be a little different to feel like a freak. And Clancy, a typical sixteen-year-old misfit with a moderately dysfunctional family, a genuine interest in Nature Club and a major crush (…more)

Number 15 #aussiesrule2018

Clancy is a funny, smart, snarky teenager living in a small Aussie town that has all-too-typical small minded ways. Already learning to accept that she may not quite fit the usual town mold, an accident involving her Dad leaves her feeling more isolated and different than ever.

Full of Aussie humour and lingo...I loved this book, and I loved Clancy.

CarolynM Love that title! 7y

“My former friends became all too quickly exactly the type of people I liked the least. It wasn‘t their shallowness or selfishness exactly, nor their vanity and desperation. It was their acceptance that there was only allowed to be a single type of person, and any variation was something to fear or hate.”

becausetrains Just for that line (and because I feel that way about many friends from my hometown) I'm adding the book. Thank you 😊 8y
Yamich49 @becausetrains Haha right? Same here! Are you from a small town too? Not that all people from small towns are like this, but I feel like a lot of people are (esp those that never leave!) Hope you enjoy it! 8y
becausetrains @Yamich49 sort of - my town is a small suburb of the Twin Cities, and I had a pretty large (~2000 student) HS of several towns. My circle of friends tended to be very conservative though - the more our sociopolitical sides developed, the more I saw people that wouldn't oppose gay conversion and mass deportation. I won't maintain ties with people who espouse hate and oppression, whether or not they see what they're doing. 8y

I really enjoyed this one! A great coming of age story about a queer teenage girl growing up in rural Australia and dealing with all of the normal parts of growing up – family issues, feeling like you don‘t belong, town bullies, trying to make real friends, and having a crush on someone who seems completely unattainable. #queerlit #netgalley

Yamich49 @BookishFeminist Haha def Litsy peer pressure for sure! And I joined NetGalley (another #damnitlitsy moment) and thought I needed to make myself look better so I get requests granted for the books I want. 😆😆 Thanks for going on and liking all of my posts buddy! 👍🏽😆✊🏼 8y

That awkward moment when you throw caution to the wind --and dash out of a family event, standing up your friends as well-- to seize precious moments with your crush: adolescence is indeed priceless! #NetGalley
