The St. Ambrose School for Girls | Jessica Ward
8 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
Heathers meets The Secret History in this thrilling coming-of-age novel set in a boarding school where the secrets are devastatingand deadly. When Sarah Taylor arrives at the exclusive St. Ambrose School, shes carrying more baggage than just what fits in her suitcase. She knows shes not like the other girlsif the shabby, all-black, non-designer clothes dont give that away, the bottle of lithium hidden in her desk drawer sure does. St. Ambroses queen bee, Greta Stanhope, picks Sarah as a target from day one and the most popular, powerful, horrible girl at school is relentless in making sure Sarah knows what the pecking order is. Thankfully, Sarah makes an ally out of her roommate Ellen Strots Strotsberry, a cigarette-huffing, devil-may-care athlete who takes no bullshit. Also down the hall is Nick Hollis, the devastatingly handsome RA, and the object of more than one St. Ambrose students fantasies. Between Strots and Nick, Sarah hopes she can make it through the semester, dealing with not only her schoolwork and a recent bipolar diagnosis, but Gretas increasingly malicious pranks. Sarah is determined not to give Greta the satisfaction of breaking her. But when scandal unfolds, and someone ends up dead, her world threatens to unravel in ways she could never have imagined. The St. Ambrose School for Girls is a dangerous, delicious, twisty coming-of-age tale that will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

15 year old with bi-polar disorder (thus unreliable) attends private boarding school and finds herself in the crosshairs of a mean girl. It was painfully slow & nothing much happens until the last 50 pages. Ward had a weird and distracting writing tick...she started sooooo many sentences with 'As'. Like multiple instances per page. Just...no.

CoverToCoverGirl I love her writing, but I avoided this one. So glad I did. 9mo

80% two dimensional coming of age story, 20% murder thriller. Not for me.

LOOK WHAT HOLD JUST CAME IN FOR ME! 🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷 When I first heard about this book I thought it was maybe by J.R. Ward's daughter...but in actuality it's just J.R. Ward using a pseudonym! 😂 In any case, my interest was hooked when I heard DARK ACADEMIA in the blurb! 🥰

julesG I got it for my daughter the other day. 1y

Pickpick

I‘ve never read a story before with a main character like Sarah Taylor before. I didn‘t know what to expect from the author . I am familiar with her previous work but I have never read her books before. The cover and the blurb drew my interest which is why I preordered it. I connected with Sarah‘s narrative and understood her disorder completely. I think that if Jessica Ward writes another story, I will read it as well.

I started reading this book and it‘s one of two books that I am currently reading. I put the others on ice for a bit.
