I was all in with this story. I loved the atmosphere, characters, and creepiness. I also liked the drama mixed in with the mystery and scare fest. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At first I forgot who the author was but it quickly became apparent to me as Armstrong's usual style shines through. I prefer the Rockton series to this-didn't feel that horrific or that “true“. I also guessed what was happening well before it was stated and that doesn't happen a lot in her Rockton/Haven's series. But still, a good, quick read.
Oh I can't help with hemlock poisoning but if you touch poison ivy you can put on some jewelweed (pic)!

I‘ve been hovering between so-so and pan, and I‘m coming down on the pan. I should have known, with it billed as things I don‘t like (thriller/horror/mystery) but I‘ve liked KA‘s other books…but no. It wasn‘t a solid story any way you slice it, and it feeds one of my pert peeves 👆🏼 when the author says someone says something without us actually getting the words. Deliberate obfuscation bugs me. I‘m irritated I spent good reading time on this.

Started a new book while waiting in my husband's office for my car (luckily, my husband's business is right next door to the mechanic).
I'm not far in, but already kind of annoyed. Three sort-of ex-friends are together in a spooky setting, and there's a bad past incident vaguely alluded to but not revealed that's been mentioned a bunch already. That premise drives me up the wall, but I'll keep going for a little longer to give it a fair chance

Book Advent Day 10! I had never heard of this one but the mystery sounds interesting!

MRIAV - fun nonsense rom com which deserves to have a follow up

MITF - Clever different format for a crime novel which kept me reading

HI - I really didn't like the writing style and I think because of this I found it rather dull for a 'horror' novel. Struggled to finish it.

MOTCE - another puzzle from this author. Quick read but nothing special.

It does a good job of building up tension of not knowing what‘s coming around the corner, as you realise the night is closing in and maybe you shouldn‘t be reading a creepy book at night. But in the end, let down by lack of character development.

But although Hemlock Island has a lot of thrills and chills, this standalone horror novel left me disappointed by the lack of character development and

Kelley Armstrong is a must read author for me and I love her Rockton series. I was so excited to hear about this book and knew I wanted to read it asap! I was more excited when OUABC selected it as their spooky Halloween box this year. This was so good I just devoured it. I thought this was a very good horror novel and I was not disappointed! Also, the gifts in this box were great!

I liked the characters, paranormal elements & the tension & thriller pacing. A quick & engaging read for the spooky season.

A great novel for spooky season!!🖤

Laney has been forced to rent out her idillic home on the secluded Hemlock Island. But soon renters start to complain about blood in the closet, and creepy wind chimes in the gazebo.

But when Laney + crew arrive, it‘s clear that something much more sinister is afoot.

This is my first #scarathlon novel in the books. It's also Armstrong's first horror book and a change of pace from her Rockton mysteries. She didn't steer clear from some gore and most of the book was action-packed. 4 stars.

My library hold came in just in time for the spooky season!

K.A. is an auto-buy author for me. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It is her first foray into adult horror. The creep factor was there, and it was certainly gory. However, I expected more from the ending.

Armstrong‘s first horror novel makes for a fast paced read that I couldn‘t put down! Set in an isolated island in northern Lake Superior, the titular island holds Laney‘s dream home that she built with her now ex-husband. After their divorce, she struggles to afford it and deals with the hassle of short-term renters. But when complaints come in of something unnatural, Laney ends up investigating alongside her ex and other friends with history…

Laney is making some extra money by renting out her home on a private island when she gets complaints about blood and scratches in a closet. A group goes with her to investigate, and Armstrong deftly ratchets up the suspense and spookiness in her first horror novel. She holds off at first on the gore, then hits hard with it. This is really good! Publishing in September.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this and holey moley wow! I knew what it was about, and I still somehow feel surprised. Amazing. #16-2023
