What a sad story about a young boy who was severely abused by his biological mother. Dave Pelzer tells of the tragic ways his alcoholic mother tortured him. Foster care didn‘t improve his life situations much . Foster parents and their charges don‘t always work for as it should for the child. Often times it takes several homes before the Foster parents & children fit well. 4/5

The book discusses Pelzer's struggling with his ability to fit in and adapt to the new environment around him as he is put into foster care. It also talks about the kindness of his foster parents and other people around him as well as his inability to brush his mother aside.

This was good. The first chapter did back up just a little bit to give the reader a taste of what he‘d had to endure previous to being removed from his biological family‘s “care”, before moving on to follow him until he no longer needed to be taken care of via foster homes. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin He has all good things to say about foster care and the love and support he received after coming out of his previously abusive life. He talks more about this in an Afterword, as well as adding notes from one of his foster mothers, a teacher, and other people who helped him during this stage of his life. 3y

🦖 Big Little Lies. We tried a book group. Lasted one month 🤣
🦖🦖 Dave Pelzer has published several memoirs that are all categorized under self help. Triggering subject matter but an amazing and powerful story well written.
🦖🦖🦖 The Lost Boy.
🦖🦖🦖🦖 I'm baaaaad about getting bored with a book, even if it's good. I'm still on vacation from books in college 😂

Not as horrifying as the first book, but the sad story continues into young adulthood. An eye opening account of the foster system and the impact that this has on a child and their future.

This true story is so incredibly moving that it made me realize I want to be a social worker, specifically in the foster care system. I have never cried so much or so often while reading a book as I did during this one. A must read. But keep tissues nearby.
