This book was super cheesy but engaging. It was a perfect read for our camping trip because I didn‘t really have to pay attention. The story was about two American women living in Paris during the start of WWII and the terrible decisions and experiences they had to live through. It follows their lives in the aftermath of the war. One complaint that I have is that everything is so predictable and perfect (even the conflict is romanticized). 2/5
Kristin Harmel was just a delight to talk to. This book was a great read, and I reread it before the book event in St. Louis with the Friends & Fiction authors.
Great HF!! Paris, 1939: Young mothers Elise and Juliette become friends. But as Nazis overtake France 🇫🇷, the 2 friends have to decide how to best protect their daughters. Sad but so good; especially like the author‘s notes at the end.

I have read many of Kristin Harmel‘s books and have loved them all. Her books feature a perspective of World War II that many of her readers know little if anything about. In this book two young mothers become friends during the start of the war. As conditions worsen one mother realizes that she must leave and asks her friend to take her daughter to live with her family so that she‘ll be safe. The rest of the book describes what happened.
I've had this #ARC for over a year. That's my toxic trait. I take way more books than I could ever hope to finish in a timely manner. Sometimes it seems like I'm ahead but I'm actually so far behind that I have books from a year ago cluttering my kindle.
While this story is entertaining and well written, it is also so way beyond predictable. It made me want the author to speed it along and just finish already.

#4 for #14Books14Weeks . Wow, a beautifully crafted piece of Historical Fiction! This is a story about love, deception, betrayal, and heartbreak. A mother's love and mother daughter rekationships. It crosses continents, families, and generations, and will take you through the full range of the emotions from sadness, disbelief, anger, anger, and joy. This book is well researched, the historical events accurate and fascinating.(cont in comments)
Though I had doubts on the level of nuanced dialogue being attributed to a toddler and could see the twist from very early on, this is a pick for sure. She writes emotionally broken characters, making the hardest of decisions in a way that cuts you right through to your core.
Hip hip hooray for Goodreads wins! 🍀
HAPPY PUB DAY!!
This book is so good.

Good but not incredible. I couldn't find a lot of sympathy for Juliette, so it kind of hamstrung me for the ending. Still an interesting read, though! #historicalfiction
This is another wonderful and very emotional book by Kristin Harmel. The author of The Forest of Vanishing Stars and The Winemaker's Wife. Both of which I read and loved. I highly recommend all three books.

This is historical fiction at it's best. It is set among very real events during WWII Paris and the years after the war in NYC and features three mothers, who are all affected by the war. When their lives intersect, they are able to help each other through some of the hardest things a mother should ever have to do. Harmel's writing drops us into this world, pulling at our heartstrings as we read how they survive in the worst circumstances. 4.75!
Thank you, @simonandschuster

This is about family, friends, choices and in the end about soul deep love. This one releases in June. Keep your eye out for it. So good. So so good. But be prepared to ugly cry. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
