This was a riotous book, chock full of action and mayhem and secrets unfolding. A heist, audacious and daring, that isn‘t at all what it seems, and an heiress who isn‘t, either. NO ONE is who they seem to be, not really, and truths unfolding alongside the plot in an astounding fashion. This was great fun to read, If not particularly taxing — not necessarily a bad thing.
🌹❤️🌹 Happy Valentine's Day y'all! 🌹❤️🌹
I was happy to be able to read for a little bit before work today 😊
In the mood for a mystery this time around, and this one looks fun! #shoppingmyshelf #tbr
It was a lighthearted read about the crazy house-heisting capers by a group of indomitable women. Very Downton Abby esc. This is what happens when you upset Mrs King. After years of loyal service, she is let go and she decides to get even. They just didn't see it coming. It is a sweet easy read but it will not set the world on fire or make me dash to read other offerings by Alex Hay.
A fun heist. Very Ocean's 8, only set in 1905 and they're robbing a mansion. Some of the character subplots bog the story down a bit, without actually letting us get invested in them, and some characters we barely get to know at all. But overall this was very entertaining. Would make a fun movie for sure.
It's 1905. A rich household in London. Mrs King grew up among the grifters and thieves of London, but has, until recently, lead a respectable life as the housekeeper of a manor in Park Lane, Mayfair. Now she's out for revenge with a plan to rob the carpets from under her former employers' feet.
Liked the women and their stories and reasons for their actions. It was interesting to the very end.
A gift and not a book I would usually read. I enjoyed it but found the end a bit drawn out. A heist story with a difference. Downstairs against upstairs. Not what you would think.
A lovely light romp of a book - a historical heist that doesnt require much thought, but kept me amused - and thats high praise with my scattered thoughts at the moment!
I lucked out and managed to get this popular ebook on a 7 day Fast Read from Libby. So dropped everything other than work. An historical heist novel set in 1905 London - a disgruntled housekeeper plans to steal the contents of a mansion during a ball. I am not sure I liked any of the characters in this one. But I did like all the historical tidbits and the Upstairs/Downstairs vibe. 👍👍
My current read is the August pick for my brand new online book club on Amazon. We will be reading new and recent releases in the mystery and thriller categories. Come join the fun!
Mrs. King is no ordinary housekeeper. Born into a world of con artist and thieves, she's made herself respectable, running the grandest home in Mayfair.

#readingbracket2023 #2023readingbracket My pick for July goes to “The Housekeepers” by Alex Hay 🗝️🏠
Themes: Oceans 11 meets Downton Abbey, Early 20th century London, Women settling scores
“Never underestimate the kitchen girls.”
What an amazing debut! I will admit that the first 50ish pages had me wondering if I should continue, but shortly after that BAM! You can‘t help but become engrossed, absorbed and intrigued with Mrs. King and her merry WOmen 😉 Definitely recommend!!
I had every intention of enjoying some outdoor time with my current read (“The Housekeepers” by Alex Hay) and my newest favorite summertime drink (White Claw Vodka + Soda + Real Juice, peach flavor) after weeding my front yard‘s flower beds. Uh, yeah, no. Nope. Nopity. I‘m inside for the rest of the day with my current read, my newest summertime drink, AND the a/c 😎✌️

This was such a delight! Oceans 8 meets Downton Abbey. It‘s a mystery, a heist, and an examination of London society- both upstairs and downstairs. Clever and biting, it was a little slow at the start but picked up nicely. Just released July 4th, this debut is one to try! #Netgalleygroup #NGSUmmersmashup #BookspinBingo @AllDebooks @TheAromaofBooks
This is an unusual and fascinating tale. It‘s written in the present tense in a quirky and engaging style. It‘s full of colourful, well drawn characters. The Edwardian era is depicted wonderfully, giving a great sense of time and place. The plot is quite complicated - there‘s a lot going on at the same time.If I did have to nitpick I would say that I found the pace a little slow at times but, nevertheless, it‘s a very enjoyable read. #Pigeonhole
This is my first “heist” book. A debut novel set in 1905 London, this is a story about secrets, revenge and power as well as the dynamics of blood family and family built on friendship. The premise of the plot is a daring heist orchestrated by the “hired help” (including ex-housekeepers, an actress and a “mafia-type” lady boss) during the most lavish ball of the season. While yes, it‘s about the meticulous planning and implementation (albeit 🔻
If you like a female driven oceans 11 kinda read...keep your eye out for this one. I thought the opening was brilliant and kinda gave me Downton Abbey vibe and then bam gears shifted and it turned into a total page-turner! This one comes out July 4th so add it to your list!
