This was really good!
Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!
The ending wasn‘t as satisfying as I thought it would be but still solid thriller.

Well, this was creepy! Haven‘t been as focused on reading, but if I could have, I would‘ve flown through it. Shades of Notes on an Execution (though nowhere near as good as that one), we hear from three women affected by an “Everyman” sort of guy who is actually a serial killer. Good stuff. #readyourkindle

This book scared me and yes, I‘ll be the first to admit I scare easily.

I saw great reviews for this book, but didn‘t read any, put myself on the waitlist at the library. So I didn‘t know anything about it when it arrived and when I read the blurb it‘s not the type of book I normally read.

A man has kidnapped a woman and kept her in a shed for 5 yrs. Now he‘s moving, and plan to kill her, but she manages to persuade him to take her with him.

Enjoying this one so far at 27%... It's always a good feeling to read something that draws you in after reading a few books that were either slower paced or harder to get into. 📖 📚

This was a very twisty- turny book but the end didn‘t go anywhere/kind of just fizzled out 🤔

This started slow but ended well, really delving into the psychology of all of the women in Aiden‘s orbit and the effect of victimization & misogyny. Better than average thriller imho.

Still have yet to find my first real 5-star read of the year but this was a solid 4.

All I can say is INTENSE! Didn‘t, wouldn‘t, couldn‘t put the book down. From the perspective of three women in a serial killer‘s life. Wow! 🤯 My anxiety was super high. I need to read something more mellow for the next round after this one 😅

The story of a deeply disturbed man told from the point of view of three women in his life: a woman who has a crush on him, his teenage daughter, and the woman he has kidnapped and living in a shed behind his house. A real thriller.

I can get lost in any Stephen King dark-fantasy novel and not only believe the story could happen, but that it is. Clemence Michallon‘s crime novel, not so much.

Starting off the new year with a bang of a read!

Aidan Thomas is a seemingly ordinary man but instead has a chilling double life. This is a PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER about a serial killer told through the voices of those closest to him - his 13yr old daughter, his girlfriend, and the victim he‘s spared. What a suspenseful debut for this author!

I could relate to main character and wanted her to survive. Characters were overall realistic.

This was captivating read, I was so intrigued and couldn't stop reading. I wanted to see what was going to happen next.

I loved this book so much, pleasurable read!

This is not a typical thriller and it is told in a unique way, through many POV, but primarily from a woman (Rachel) who has been held by a serial killer for more than five years. I found it compelling and read through it quickly, waiting impatiently for Rachel to find the right moment to make her move. I would have liked to know a little more about the killer's motivation...but maybe that is the point of the book, it is about the victims. 4/5

So far I've been really lucky with books for #Scarathlon. This one is about a woman who's been kidnapped by a serial killer but instead of killing her he decides to keep her in his shed. Things get messy when he has to move house.

A remarkably fast-paced and compelling thriller that feels unique even amidst a saturated genre.

This was fantastic. I couldn‘t turn the pages fast enough. There was so much at stake for all three POVs: a serial killer‘s 13 year old daughter, the woman he has kept chained up for five years, and his next target who has fallen for him. The last time I felt this same urgency was when I read Will Dean‘s brilliant The Last Thing to Burn. So many times, I screamed at these women to Run! or Stop! I barely exhaled for the last 1/4 of the story.

Almost halfway thru and this one has me gripped. I keep yelling “No!” and “Stop!” and “RUN!”

I‘m in my car reading on my lunch break and I really wish I didn‘t have to go back in to work!

This is a compelling thriller told from three viewpoints. A victim, a family member, and a potential love interest narrate their relationships with a violent criminal. Although the three narrators sometimes made frustrating choices, they were not unbelievable choices. If you are sensitive to reading about murder or violence this book may not be for you.

I liked what this book was about. I liked the lyricalness. But also, this was supposed to be a thriller. It felt more like a really long monolog or biography. If I went into this book thinking that, I might have liked it more. I felt as tho I was always waiting for nothing to ever really happen.. 2/5

I liked this one more than I expected to. It toggles between 3 points of view…his daughter, his prisoner and the bartender who has a huge crush on him…and is also targeted to be his next victim. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This a good read if your willful-suspension-of-disbelief mode is on. I‘m afraid all the coincidences, close calls, and logical inconsistencies had me rolling my eyes a lot. The second person narrative for the main character also wore me out. The situation just never felt particularly dangerous to me and it lacked the weighty tension that a serial killer ought to inspire. But I‘m sure lots of people will just eat it up.

Couldn‘t put this one down! A serial killer kidnaps a woman, and keeps her chained up in a shed on his property. The three narrators are the woman, the man‘s daughter, and a woman who falls for him. You know as you‘re reading that these three women have to come together at some point, you just don‘t know when. It‘s a gripper (with a few parts that will be hard for women to read.)

One last book finished in July and it was a LOT. Suspenseful, yes, but so much more than that. Here's a story about a terrible man that ends up being about three women and the resiliency of women.

This book was so, so bad. The only reason I gave it a “so-so” instead of a “pan” was because the idea of the book was cool and the three characters POVs was interesting, but I hated all of the characters. I love a good thriller and was pumped to read this but just found it so cringey 😬

For so long I‘ve loved “Room” by Emma Donoghue…and I‘m happy to say this had similar vibes without being a copycat. A super quick read that kept me listening while I gardened. Readers hear multiple women‘s perspectives of Aiden. Is he the friendly neighbor who stops by the bar after work, the tortured father whose wife died, or the man with dark secrets?

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. One of my best thriller reads for 2023 so far! This was everything I love in a thriller dark, sinister, disturbing characters I was hooked! This was a well paced thriller that had me so wrapped up in it it was all I could think about when I wasn't reading it. To describe it as an addictive psychological thriller read is simply not enough but its all I have. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

So our store just got this #ARC but the physical book came out in June 🙄...anyhooo...I started it today...I finished it today and I'm telling y'all it puts the suspense in a suspense read! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read for sure. Highly recommend this one.

I started this book today and finished it today. I love stories about serial killers and this one had several different perspectives. The daughter, love interest, and current hostage for 5 years. I liked that the hostage is the main character and her perspective is written in second person which I don‘t see often. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh boy this one is TENSE.

You feel so so much for “Rachel”. I cheered for her triumphs.

What I appreciated about this one was how it showed the side of the other woman too. How she feels being the one that didn‘t know and the emotions that follow.

There is a lot that could potentially turn someone off from this book…from the second-person POV, almost mechanical writing, to the possible believability issues. Seriously, many readers didn‘t love this but honestly, for me, and maybe the fantastic audio narration helped with this, these elements barely put a damper on my satisfaction. I was hooked and couldn‘t stop listening…so if you‘re thinking about this book, go with the audio.

As soon as I heard about this book, I knew I needed to get my hands on it. I was NOT disappointed. I was sucked in right away. If I didn‘t have 2 littles and work 🤣 I would probably have read this in one sitting. 5 ⭐️‘s from me.

Wow! I had seen so many great reviews of this book and it did not disappoint! This book sucked me in from the very first page and I read it almost all in one sitting because I couldn‘t put it down. I think this one just took the spot for my favorite book of the month!

I thought this was really good. I wanted to keep reading when I already was and when I wasn‘t, I wanted to get back to the book. It sounds implausible from my description, but it seems more believable when reading. Viewpoints include Rachel, Cecilia, and Emily the bartender. Rachel needs to figure out when and/or if she should say anything and/or run. Everything she does is to give herself the best chance of survival.

I think readers are either going to like this book or hate it. It's very dark. It's very disturbing. It's scary in that you never really know the people in your town. I enjoyed a lot but didn't love it due to the dark material.
