By Mrs Alec Tweedie (née Harley) - a woman without even a first name of her own, but possessed of wanderlust and a decent travel budget, (not to mention a brother already at her destination).

Every year at #GladstonesLibrary I come across at least one title that amuses me (or makes me cringe - I still haven't gotten over "Journeys Among the Gentle Japs")
This year I present to you: CHEAP TRACTS
Entertaining, moral and religious, (not to mention cheap) repository tracts - for the use of W. E. Gladstone's servants in 1833.

If Gladstone read this travelogue that was gifted to him by the author (see earlier post), he must have bailed halfway through as several of the pages haven't been cut. So I might have to go the Project Gutenberg route if I want to find out what Rev. Christie experienced in the East and South of Russia. (Not a great deal if the first half of the book is anything to go by.)

Treasure found at Gladstone's. The Book of the Goat. By the British Goat Society. Containing Full Particulars of Breeds of Goats and Their Profitable Management.
The publisher also has "Book of the Rabbit - a charming book for rabbit fanciers", "Pig Keeping for Amateurs", and "Fancy Mice" which "goes thoroughly into the subject".
