After a home dye job ruins her hair, Agatha Raisin, the prickly yet lovable amateur sleuth, turns to the wonderful new hairdresser in the neighboring town for help. And as Agatha soon learns, Mr. John is as skilled at repairing her coiffure as he is at romancing her heart. But the charming Mr. John isn't all he appears to be. According to gossip around the salon and the village, some of his former clients seem to be afraid of him. Could Mr. John really be a ruthless blackmailer? When a murderer strikes at the busy salon, Agatha must discover the truth and the killer's identity before it's too late, in Agatha Raisin and the Wizard of Evesham from beloved author M.C. Beaton.

Agatha Raisin is such a funny, cranky woman. I love reading about her exploits. She decides to help one of the women in the Cotswolds village with being blackmailed. What she ends up doing is getting involved in another murder investigation, of course. If you are looking for a light cozy mystery, look no further than the Agatha Raisin Series by M.C. Beaton.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

I read three more in the series. Still enjoying Agatha‘s sleuthing.

Finally! A book without James Lacey being a complete jerk! Though, I‘m not really a fan of Sir Charles, either. Agatha needs better taste in men.

I liked the blackmailing story line of this instalment and the cast of new characters were all so delightfully awful!

Loved Agatha and Charles teamed up solving this mystery. Poor Agatha at the end can‘t wait to read the next one. Was so happy no James Lacey this book!

I‘m liking this series more and more with each book. Agatha is such an interesting character, quite funny and very relatable imo. Her love life keeps me guessing for sure! I‘m glad it doesn‘t go the predictable route. I would highly recommend this series! 4⭐️

This books story line was slightly more confusing for me to work out. Maybe i was distracted with the outside world too much while reading this title but i remember having to double back and reread previous paragraphs until i was following the story properly.
Overall though, i really enjoyed this book! But i haven't read a book by M.C Beaton that i haven't enjoyed yet! ☺

I'd both missed Agatha and needed a little break. This time around, Aggie and Sir Charles investigate the murder of a "wizard" of a hairdresser whom Agatha had had a fling with. Of course, all is not what it seems, and the end sets up the next story quite nicely. (Haven't read it but have seen the TV adaptation.) Looking forward to more time in Carsely soon!

ultrabookgeek Wait, Agatha has a tv show??? Is it deliciously British? 8y
LauraBrook @ultrabookgeek Yes it is, only it takes a bit of getting used to. Roy isn't a selfish a-hole, and Aggie is blond! And of course, most people were made younger on the show (do TV people think we only want to see "young, beautiful things"? I sure don't!). But it's good! I'm streaming it on the Acorn station through my Roku. 8y
ultrabookgeek Sigh, tv always misses the nuances. But I will look for the series on a streaming site and let my mom know - she is the queen of British crimes/mysteries. 8y

LauraBrook @Bette Thanks! Love that autumn afternoon light - and it gave me a good "use" for the old wheel against my house. ? 8y

This eighth Agatha Raisin series book finds Agatha as moody as ever. This time, she enters the world of the hairdresser - full of jealousies, gossip, and even murder. Love the characters; I'm a huge M.C. Beaton fan and have yet to be disappointed.
