The American Roommate Experiment
The American Roommate Experiment: A Novel | Elena Armas
From the author of the Goodreads Choice Award winner The Spanish Love Deception, the eagerly anticipated follow-up featuring Rosie Graham and Lucas Martn, who are forced to share a New York apartment. Rosie Graham has a problem. A few, actually. She just quit her well paid job to focus on her secret career as a romance writer. She hasnt told her family and now has terrible writers block. Then, the ceiling of her New York apartment literally crumbles on her. Luckily she has her best friend Linas spare key while shes out of town. But Rosie doesnt know that Lina has already lent her apartment to her cousin Lucas, who Rosie has been stalkingfor lack of a better wordon Instagram for the last few months. Lucas seems intent on coming to her rescue like a Spanish knight in shining armor. Only this one strolls around the place in a towel, has a distracting grin, and an irresistible accent. Oh, and he cooks. Lucas offers to let Rosie stay with him, at least until she can find some affordable temporary housing. And then he proposes an outrageous experiment to bring back her literary muse and meet her deadline: Hell take her on a series of experimental dates meant to jump-start her romantic inspiration. Rosie has nothing to lose. Her silly, online crush is totally under controlbut Lucass time in New York has an expiration date, and six weeks may not be enough, for either her or her deadline.

Characters could have been more fleshed out.

This was cozy to read, even though I would have loved to laugh while reading.

Writing was okay but there was a lot of blushing & smirking, it was slightly repetitive.

I think the book could have been shorter, there were several fake dates that started to feel repetitive: they ended suddenly when something unexpected happened and things didn't go forward.

Better than the first book!

I loved the first book so was looking forward to this follow up. It didn‘t disappoint. Two strangers are forced to share a New York apartment. Rosie, a new writer with a deadline and Lucas, a Spanish guy with a distracting grin. Lucas offers to help Rosie pen her story with a set of dating experiments - what could go wrong? Full of laughs, one liners and Spanish phrases that were translated luckily!
The perfect summer read ☀️

Wow… I haven‘t read a good romance novel in quite some time. Armas definitely made my expectations way too high now. At first, I thought this book was going to be just okay, and it was. The first half didn‘t seem like anything special, but then the second half hit and it took my breath away. I couldn‘t put it down. I‘m honestly shocked at how much I loved it. The slow-burn was excruciatingly wonderful and the plot wasn‘t even bad. Loved it.

This is a romance novel that follows the characters Rosie and Lucas. After Rosie quit her big corporate job she decided to become a writer, but she‘s suffering from major writers block and as if her life couldn‘t get any worse her ceiling came crashing down on her. So she decided to go stay at her best friends loft while she was on her honeymoon. Little did she know her best friends cousin was going to be in town for 3 whole months.

miyadombowsky Did I mention she‘s had a crush on him forever! They then make a deal that if Rosie showed him around New York he would take her on cute romantic outings to get her out of her writers block. Along the way they fall for each other more and more and their relationship turns into something more. But Lucas is hiding something and if there‘s no trust are they going to make it till the end? 2y

Totally adorable! Sweet and salty, had me worried for a minute but came through strong at the end! Loved these characters and the slow burn they made us wait through. #BookspinBingo #romantsy #Loveathon @TheAromaofBooks #Pantone2023 #AiryBlue #TenderPeach @Clwojick

This was a cute, fun read. Rosie has had a crush on her best friend‘s cousin - she‘s never met him but follows his Instagram account. Lucas is dealing with recovering from a terrible accident, and while I don‘t wish a terrible accident on anyone, I do like that this makes him human, because otherwise he reads as the perfect man: romantic, a great cook and dancer, and attuned to the woman before him. Try this is you like rom coms!

I really wanted to like this book, but it was bland, annoying and very cheesy. Boring, unfortunately.

This was cute and unexpectedly set at halloween. I liked the ending a lot, but in general this really stretched the limits of how I could believe why the couple wasn‘t together yet. Two single people who very clearly like each other just choose to…… believe making a move is illegal or something. Lots I liked but overall just too frustrating

After reading and enjoying “The Spanish Love Deception“, I jumped at the chance to read this new rom-com set in the same universe. I was not disappointed and stayed up until 2 am last night because I had to finish it...even though the ending was obvious. I know this is not a literary work, but for pure fun and escapism it is a delight. Sometimes that is all you want from a book. 4/5 stars.

Excellent slow burn romance that hit just right. It stands alone, but is apparently a companion to The Spanish Love Deception, which I will obvious now be reading as soon as I can! Publishes on Tuesday!
