pickI really enjoyed this one but won‘t say much here as it‘s an #LMPBC pick (a great choice @Laughterhp ). 😊 It centers around 1948 Edinburgh, the beginning of the NHS in Scotland and a young medical almoner who is determined to bring justice to a murdered woman. Great heroine, twisty plot, interesting details/background. 4.25/5⭐️
pickFinished this yesterday. It was interesting and different. You‘ll want to fly through it but you‘ll need to take a moment to get through the dialogue. It‘s very thick and Scottish. (There is a glossary in the back, which I didn‘t notice until too late, so FYI!) It‘s my pick for #LMPBC #groupH, so I won‘t say anything else.

so-soNewlywed Helen is excited to start working for a couple of doctors at beginnings of the NHS. She may end up in over her head when she's dealing with reluctant patients, grouchy doctors, & a girl found dead in the lower level of her new house.
A great job at scene setting. & we get an immediate sense of Helen & her values. I don‘t like writing out accents phonetically. And that plus slang meant I had to reread a lot of the dialogue. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
