I saved this as a book I wanted to read back in 2018. Never got to it. But as I was reviewing my Goodreads history this book and its title gave me the chills. The U.S. has been invaded by Putin and most people don‘t realize it yet.

I agree with Kasparov - Putin is dictator, threat to Russian and the world, I support and admire Kasparov‘s fight for democracy ... but this book is just spilling hatred that he feels towards Putin. I could be okay with that, he hate him with reason, but unfortunately I can‘t overlook how uncritical and forgetful is he, especially to the Yeltsin. This book was for me disappointment, between so-so and pan. If you are looking for book about ... 👇

Winter Is Coming

It is clear from reading this book that Kasparov is no fan of Vladimir Putin and that he longs for freedom for his homeland. The book is a rebuke to leaders of the West for consistently capitulating to Putin and giving him the upper hand. Kasparov spreads his criticism to many countries and to both GW Bush and Obama. He warns that expecting Putin to play by Western rules is playing right into his hands. (Continued in comments)

This book shows how Russia now will not just impact your now but also your future. Along with Bill Browder's Red Notice this is reading that should be completed by those of us concerned. References to chess were appreciated. Kasparov doesn't mince words and critiques each world leader on the basis of his/her actions, no holding back. a very human rights focused read that highlights how much is at stake - our very American (aka "free") way of life.

Excellent look at Putin's rise in Russia. Kasparov pulls no punches in pointing fingers at the West, especially the US, in failing to recognize that Putin is a dictator. While the book is a couple of years old, I can easily see how much bolder Putin has gotten. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kasparov also mentions that education opens doors to not only the world, but one's mind. #truth

If we don't stand for freedom, we will lose it.

The author leaves no doubt on how he feels about President Obama's foreign policy. So far, it seems that only President Reagan got things right in his eyes. I do think, though, that it's easier to find fault after the fact than while in the middle of a crises.

Wow. This is unbelievable! And we are still playing nice with Putin. Smh.

It's not just liberals who are guilty of this. Conservatives are just as guilty!

And the the book also includes George W. Bush as a leader welcoming Putin. If this book had been written a little later, I believe Donald Trump would also be in that list. I'm only 7% in, and I'm horrified.

Starting this today. I feel like some have vastly underestimated what Putin can and has done. He concerns me greatly.

Dang you Amazon! Another one on my to-read list is on sale today. Yay it's on sale, Boo you are killing my budget!! But you know I'll spend it, especially considering the current Russian news stories, every day lately.

Fascinating yet terrifying. My hope that Kasparov is wrong but I don't think he is. Important read!

Just got through the introduction and I can say this is the most terrifying books I've ever read.😳

Riveting. I finished the book more alarmed about Putin, Western complacency & the threat beyond Russia than when I started. Kasparov is fascinating & has a chess world champion's eye on things, & first-hand experience in Russian politics - a unique position. He sees where Western leadership failure will end up. The thinking person's 'tells it like it is' figure, opinions are strong but well-founded, the message is urgent. A must-read.

Book and dinner! Pasta with lots of parsley and garlic, staving off a cold. This book is so compelling, Kasparov in a unique position to speak of both Russia and the West. I'm racing through it.

Garry Kasparov fascinates me. There is much hard-earned wisdom in the opening pages.

Communism is like an autoimmune disorder; it doesn‘t do the killing itself, but it weakens the system so much that the victim is left helpless and unable to fight off anything else. It destroys the human spirit on an individual level, perverting the values of a successful free society.
