Basically, it's a typical Ware novel - I keep reading all her books, hoping that one will eventually break through whatever it is that keeps me from rating it higher. I can't put my finger on what it is. It's like there is a potential there that just hasn't quite been reached.3/5
I‘m always excited when there‘s a new Ruth ware book to read! Especially when it‘s an audio book read by Imogen Church! This is fantastic.
I just love her voice, writing, and character development. I figured out the bad guy early, but still found the mystery and the twists compelling and worthwhile though it did run a bit long. Ware never disappoints. #AuthoraMonth #AAM @Soubhiville #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
Ruth Ware delivers another thrilling page-turner that will keep you guessing, thinking everyone is sus until the very last page! The hubby‘s life motto is TRUST NO ONE and it definitely applies to this read because GEEZ! I thought they ALL did it at some point of the book.
I don‘t agree with Baldacci that she‘s the “Agatha Christie of our generation” but this was a competent thriller and I enjoyed it more than her last two. Golden girl, April Clarke-Clivedon was murdered while a student at Oxford. It was her roommate, Hannah Jones‘s testimony that convicts a smarmy college porter of the crime. Protesting his innocence to the last, he dies in prison and now Hannah is questioning her memories of the crime.
*sigh* a bit disappointed, slow to start where I sped up the audio. I didn't like Hannah's self inflicted guilt over a man who clearly did things that were just wrong. And all the talk on how she was BFF with April but only had one "show me" time where April was nice to her, she was actually not a likable character. In my opinion, this book could have easily have been trimmed by 100 pages. ? Still a Ruth Ware fan but this one was so so for me.
3rd book read during #SuperSeptember Readathon @Andrew65
I liked this one but not loved it. I liked the mystery, how it was developed and some parts of the end. I was not connected in that relationship between Hannah and Will. Sometimes I couldn‘t stand Hannah and her irresponsible decisions during her pregnancy. Maybe who did it was for me an old cliché used in thrillers. But I like this author writing style. I enjoyed the audiobook. 3.7/3.8⭐️
I enjoyed this one! It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did I could scarcely put it down. I will continue to order Ruth Ware‘s books cold.
I‘ve been painfully distracted lately. This is the longest book “rut” I‘ve been in, in years. Not for want of excellent / enjoyable books!!
Listening to The It Girl… unfortunately bc of my inability to focus on reading lately, I‘m about to lose it to the list of holds, and I‘m only about 20% done. Enjoying it so far though!
This brilliant memoir, however, has really captured my attention, and I‘m almost done… review to come. #RealLifeBookGroup
Set at Oxford this book follows Hannah, a shy bookish girl and her “IT GIRL” roommate, April. The format is dual timelines; their first semester at Oxford (2012) ending in Murder and 2022 - 10 years past the murder.
My issue with this book was it‘s length. It dragged on FOREVER. Last 100 pages were engaging but ultimately couldn‘t save this book for me. A low pick.
VERY slow going!!! The buildup is dragging- if not for a review, I would probably set this aside for now 🤷🏼♀️ #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime
I had the privilege of meeting Ruth Ware last week during her book tour for her book, It Girl. She was positively amazing. ❤️📚✨
Starting this one today. So excited!
✨Well.. this is exciting!! ✨
New Ware! Hoping it's better than her very last 😬
