Lore Olympus: Volume Two
Lore Olympus: Volume Two | Rachel Smythe

Witness what the gods do after dark in the second volume of a stylish and contemporary reimagining of one of the best-known stories in Greek mythology from creator Rachel Smythe. "It's easy to see why the internet has fallen in love with Lore Olympus. This dazzling interpretation of the classic Greek myths is as charming as it is provocative."--Marissa Meyer, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lunar Chronicles Persephone was ready to start a new life when she left the mortal realm for Olympus. However, she quickly discovered the dark side of her glamorous new home--from the relatively minor gossip threatening her reputation to a realm-shattering violation of her safety by the conceited Apollo--and she's struggling to find her footing in the fast-moving realm of the gods. Hades is also off-balance, fighting against his burgeoning feelings for the young goddess of spring while maintaining his lonely rule of the Underworld. As the pair are drawn ever closer, they must untangle the twisted webs of their past and present to build toward a new future. This full-color edition of Smythe's original Eisner-nominated webcomic Lore Olympus features a brand-new, exclusive short story, and brings Greek mythology into the modern age in a sharply perceptive and romantic graphic novel. This volume collects episodes 26-49 of the #1 WEBTOON comic Lore Olympus.

So persephone‘s crush is now her boss. And everyone is taking about the news article with her and hades. Not to mention the relationship drama between those close to her. Things are getting complicated, but isn‘t everything complicated in Olympus?

Lore Olympus has me stopping every few pages and thanking the author for this one! The graphics are beautiful and the storyline is easy to follow. Persephone is beautifully naive. Kudos to my sonshine for gifting me this cheetah blanket!

There‘s something about a fresh new copy, spine not cracked that gives me ALL the feels! I am too excited to dig into this and share my thoughts with a scholar who is now about to graduate from high school!! I‘m honored to know her and even more honored that she still values my opinion.

julieclair I love everything about this post! 💝 8mo

... She is terrifying... 😄

(Still misreading the title in my head as Lore Olympics...)

SaunteringVaguelyDownwards It's very weird to see this laid out as a book instead of the vertical webtoon! I wonder if the author had to do any editing to account for the change in medium. 12mo
charl08 @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards IDK - interesting! She does discuss rearranging / editing sections (but I'm not sure if that's from the webtoon to the book, or before it was published). 12mo

3.75⭐
I didn't love this as much as Vol 1, but it's still a quick, fun take on the Gods/Goddesses.
It's very much like reading a tabloid about them.
The art style is lovely and the main romance is intriguing enough to read on.
I've had to Google names to figure out who's who in the mythological family tree...it's easy to lose track if you're not super familiar with your Gods and Goddesses.

The next row of my #readinglogsnake is Lore Olympus Vol. 2. For graphic novels, I picked yarn called mexicana because it had a lot of colors in it, and I read many graphic novels that cover all gambit of genres. This is an interesting retelling of the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone, where Hades is conflicted with getting into a relationship with Persephone due to her innocence. Entertaining read. 5/5 ⭐️ #BooksAndCrafts #ARRCReads

They're so CUUUUTE! 😭
Have I mentioned that ever since encountering the (heavily sanitized) version of their story as a child, Persephone and Hades has been one of my favourite Greek myths? As with the first volume, the author is kind enough to put a warning in the front of the book so I won't worry about putting it here. Suffice to say it's a bit more true to the Olympians than my childhood storybook. P.S. Cerberus is the best pupper. 🥰 🐶🐶🐶

Still on the fence. I'll have to read the whole series to make up my mind. Luckily, they are quick to read.

The illustration style is not really my cup of tea.

Phones and social media are very present. Very realistic, which is actually not that common in fiction.

This comic continues to delight—lots to love in this vivid, bold, modern retelling of the story of Persephone and Hades. The gods in this story aren‘t immune to jealousy, rivalry, pride, ambition, fear, sadness, and joy—they feel all of those things, wow do they feel it. Smythe‘s story addresses power dynamics, age differentials, consent, toxic relationships & more in this compelling, thought-provoking, very entertaining comic. Love Vol. 2 & 3.

ravenlee I just read these, too. I wasn‘t sure about the first one, but it stuck with me and once I got started with the second one I was hooked. Now I‘m sad I have to wait so long for the fourth volume! 2y
TracyReadsBooks @ravenlee I definitely think it gets stronger as it goes along. I just sent the first volume to a friend who is a classics professor and I‘m really excited to see what she thinks! 2y
ravenlee I found it particularly interesting because I read Riordan‘s The Trials of Apollo earlier this year, so the characterization of Apollo was notable. Actually, I think the characters of all the gods make a lot of sense. 2y

I don‘t know what I‘m going to do with myself when I finish the next volume. I enjoyed this more than the first - we get more gods/goddesses behaving badly, some annoying behavior from Hades, but also some really sweet moments between Hades and Persephone.

Volume 2 was my #doublespin book this month. Great continuation to the story! I ordered volume 3 and it‘s supposed to be delivered late next month. I‘m enjoying reading this in book from, so for now I‘m going to try not to skip ahead in the webtoon version. #LGBTQBookBingoPublishedIn2022 @TheAromaofBooks @Kenyazero

Illumicrate box two. A special edition of a web comic.

Ombré edges go from pink on top to blue on the bottom. Foil lettering. There‘s a letter from the author bound into the front of the book. No jacket. Its very pretty. They might still be available? I think I have a standard edition for book one. I should check to see how they compare …

I look forward to reading this.

Twainy Well I posted this out of order. The 2 IC boxes were delivered yesterday. Ugh when will I catch up ?? Month long readathons really set me back ….. I hope everyone is having a good week & able to read or listen to a book today 🤗 2y

The book isn't actually out yet, but I read the episodes (so it counts). Still loving it! I'll probably be on episode 150+ by the time the third volume comes out (or has a release date). The episodes are quite easy to fly through and read one after the other because I want to know what happens.
