The Annie Year
The Annie Year | Stephanie Wilbur Ash

Tall, trusted Tandy Caide, CPA, is a long-time patron of the arts in her town, which is why you will find her sitting in the front row of the high schools annual musical production. This year is an Annie year--and it would be no different than other years were it not for the high schools hiring of a new vocational agriculture (Vo-Ag) teacher. With his beguiling ponytail and decorative beaded belt, Kenny catches Tandys eye immediately. Ignoring the fact of her slovenly husband--who takes most of his meals in their hot tub--Tandy decides to entertain Kennys advances. Trusted community pillar that she is, Tandys affair has instant repercussions. People are talking and her husbands subsequent breakdown and check-in to a mental institution doesnt help. At her regular meeting with the Order of the Pessimists--comprised of her deceased fathers disgruntled and drunken best friends--she is asked to step down as treasurer. Not only that, but her old lover is keeping a secret somehow connected to the Vo-Ag teacher. And meth labs--fueled by the abundance of fertilizer present in the region--keep blowing up. Somehow, it is all connected to Tandys ex-bestfriends daughter--the star of this years Annie. As Tandy pieces together the puzzle that has become her life, it becomes clear she must embark on a journey of self-discovery that might even include leaving town for good.

Finished the final book in this round of #lmpbc standing up on the most crowded train I‘ve ever been on. (The picture was taken after I was able to snag a seat 😂) I‘ll write my final thoughts when I get home and ship it back to its home soon!

It‘s been fun reading with you guys! 📚

I debated grabbing a second book before I left home today because I was getting close to finishing this one. I didn‘t and oh, what a mistake that‘s been! We had massive delays commuting into Boston today and now a delay leaving! Of all the times not to have a really good and long book with me ...

#trainreading

CareBear That sounds like a rookie mistake! 😉 6y

I started reading the final book in this round of #lmpbc earlier this week. I‘m about 60% of the way through it now so it should be ready to head home next week!

This will be my last round of #lmpbc for a little while as I need to take a break to focus on some other things in my life. So I am savoring this one a little extra until I can join my next one when things settle down!

#LMPBC #GroupR This one wasn‘t for me. Didn‘t care for the characters or the story. They can‘t all be hits. I‘m looking forward to the next read, and can‘t believe it‘s the last one for round 003. I‘m definitely signing up again. I love to read everyone‘s comments.

Pickpick

I knew nothing about this book when I picked it up which served me well. It is a short, tightly written novel about living in a small town. Tandy is a wonderful narrator even if she is not particularly likeable. She is honest and openly confused as she unflinchingly reports every event that occurred and her involvement in them. The writing is strong and the book manages to be both funny and sad often on the same page.

Cinfhen Nice review 💕 8y

I decided to copy @Liberty even though I didn't read near the same amount of books this year, and tweeted my best books of 2016. With novels for adults, non-fiction, middle grade, YA, comics, audiobooks, Christian life and graphic novels, maybe you'll find something you like!

Theresa Great list. Added a few to my TBR! 8y
maximoffs @Theresa oooh which! Glad to be a help! 8y
Theresa The Annie Year, I Kill the Mockingbird, & Caminar. Others like Missoula & Ms. Marvel were already on my TBR. To Kill a Mockingbird is my all-time favorite. How could I have not heard of I Kill the Mockingbird?!?!? 😄 8y

One of the best novels I've read in a very very long time. One that I didn't expect to really move me the way that it did, and one that will stick with me for a really really long time. If you haven't picked it up, you need to. You won't regret it.

shawnmooney Sounds interesting! 8y
Nonaroo I just stacked this. 😀 8y

BB1958 A few chapters in and I agree. Warm hearted look at some in testing characters, infused with some keen observations about life. 8y

After finding out my Starbucks drink was discontinued I was put off my game a bit. But now I'm at the central library to do a photoshoot of sorts for my newest bookish and travel blog project! Stay tuned

jessicarenee What drink was it? Hopefully you got something equally delicious! 📚☕️🙂 8y
maximoffs @jessicarenee the oprah chai 😭 I ended up with a chestnut praline latte! Good but I miss my Oprah Chai 8y
alanacristin Now I'm curious: what was the Oprah Chai like? I like a tall dirty Chai best of all. The espresso pumps it up and make it less sweet. And is even good iced! Mmm. 8y

Just getting into this one. Fun unreliable and snarky narrator from a small upper Midwestern town. Reminds me a bit of Ottessa Moshfegh's EILEEN, except a bit more irreverent.

Aleida I love the cover. I remember when almost all books l saw used that style. 8y
