THE NEW THRILLER FROM THE MASTER OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SUSPENSE 'He did kill. Kill and kill and kill.' Tess's number one priority has always been her three-year-old daughter Poppy. But splitting up with Poppy's father Jason means that she cannot always be there to keep her daughter safe. When she finds a disturbing drawing, dark and menacing, among her daughter's brightly coloured paintings, Tess is convinced that Poppy has witnessed something terrible. Something that her young mind is struggling to put into words. But no one will listen. It's only a child's drawing, isn't it? Tess will protect Poppy, whatever the price. But when she doesn't know what, or who, she is protecting her from, how can she possibly know who to trust . . . ? 'What an intriguing, compelling page-turner. I ate it up in two days' Liz Nugent, author of Our Little Cruelties 'I love Nicci French's books, and with The Unheard they are right at the top of their game. Few crime writers can match their psychological acuity, of their ability to lead a reader through dizzying plot twists without ever losing pace. It's an absolute masterclass of crime writing' Kate Rhodes, author of the Locked-Island Mystery series Praise for Nicci French: 'Confirms Nicci French as the giant of the genre' Erin Kelly 'Part ingenious locked-room mystery. Part you've-got-the-wrong-person nightmare drama. Part intricate memory game. Yet all seamlessly woven together. French's best book yet' A J Finn 'Expertly paced, psychologically sharp, thoroughly enjoyable' Louise Candlish 'Meticulously plotted, psychologically astute' Sarah Vaughan 'Great writing, razor-sharp plotting, and powerful characterisation. I was 100 pages in before I even drew breath, and I defy anyone to see the ending coming' Cara Hunter 'It's Nicci French perfection - which, as we all know, is the best kind of perfection. So, so gripping and brilliantly clued' Sophie Hannah 'A novel that blissfully plays with two genres: on the one hand an against-the-odds legal thriller la John Grisham... and on the other a Miss Marple whodunnit' Sunday Times 'Nicci French husband-and-wife writing team responsible for some of the UK's best psychological thrillers have created a gem of a protagonist in Tabitha' Observer 'First-class' Independent 'Gripping' Literary Review 'Gritty and moving - the husband-and-wife team have scored another hit' Best 'A twisty and shocking read' Bella 'Engrossing' Good Housekeeping

Today‘s Prompt: WILD GOOSE CHASE

PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER

What goes on at her ex‘s house?

The police had to investigate, and this gets everyone in Tess's life involved in the investigation even though it might be a “WILD GOOSE CHASE.”

The tension is subtle, but evident.

Mehso-so

I did not love this book. I listened to the audiobook, maybe it was the narration, I found the main character to be annoying and whiney. The end of the book was also a big dissapointment. Just meh.

When an author uses a kid correctly in a thriller or horror novel it can create a truly terrifying reading experience.

This story follows a recently separated woman and her daughter through a harrowing experience when the daughter draws a picture of a woman being killed. Lots of red herrings, great slow build to a well developed and delivered ending.

I will definitely read more by this author.

Single mother Tess, one day finds a drawing that her young daughter has made. Unlike her kids bright colored drawings, this one is in black of a woman falling. Tess just know that something isn‘t right, but no one believes. So she looks into it herself.

This book scares me and if it was a movie I wouldn‘t dare watch it.

I‘m new to Nicci French. In this slow building story, Newly separated Tess is trying to build a stable life for herself and her three year old daughter Poppy. Things are going well, till Poppy draws a disturbing drawing and starts acting out. Uncertain what has happened to her sweet daughter, Tess starts pulling information together that leads her to believe Poppy may be witness to a murder. Slow to build, all the twists come at the end.

🎧 Recently divorced mom of 3 yo Poppy goes on an amateur sleuthing expedition after her daughter draws a disturbing picture of a woman falling from a tower. Two people are dead. Was there foul play? Is her philandering X or his new pregnant wife involved?

The mom does so many things frustratingly wrong but it was a gripping mystery that I kept returning to.

Interesting psychological mystery & fast paced thriller.

Soooooo.... I enjoyed a good chunk of this book but I skimmed the last half of the book. There are several issues I have and one of them is a detective giving information of an investigation out to some random person. Another is I get what these authors were trying for but it wasn‘t very believable. It could have been a 300 pg book max but went over 450. I hate being harsh, I will read other books by them eventually. 😕

Lazy day with the rain and cold. 😟But that means I get some reading time! My first Nicci French and I must say, I‘m liking this duo. I may need to actually read some of the books by them that I own! 🤷‍♀️🤣
