pickNewlywed Lydia was abducted & held captive (TW galore!) for 9 years. Once she escapes she searches out her husband who is remarried, with kids, & living well. We follow Lydia & the 2nd wife as they navigate a new reality. I was pleased w myself for suspecting one of the reveals from early on but the other one was quite a surprise to me. A soft pick as I didn't connect to any of the characters but that may be a me thing as I've been in a slump.

For me, when you have an unreliable narrator, they need to have a reason for their unreliableness. This book just had an unreliable narrator for the sake of shocking us. The character's attitudes felt all wrong for what we knew of the situation. Which just left me confused and unsatisfied with the story overall…and then you have this big reveal like it‘s supposed to fix everything you‘ve been feeling so far. Nope...that‘s not going to cut it.
