#BookMoods #SecondInASeries

Has to be Wire in the Blood, one of my all-time favourite books and second in the excellent Tony Hill / Carol Jordan series. This was also the title of the tv series they made from the books.

@Eggs @AlwaysBeenALoverOfBooks

Eggs Beautiful cover 🧡 2y
KathyWheeler I love both these books and the tv series. 2y

Mehso-so

Yeah, I finished this book today! It is only a so-so because it isn't very exciting. But I like the protagonists and the antagonists. Next book with Tony Hill and Carol Jordan will be an audiobook.

The book counts for my #Scarathlon2021 #teamslaughter #thriller #crime

Pickpick

I can't help but compare the characters in the books to the ones in the TV series, and it's becoming more and more clear that Robson Greene delivered an absolute masterclass in acting as Dr Tony Hill. I remember this episode on TV and it differed from the book quite significantly. Whilst not quite as brutally graphic as the first book, there are certain scenes which are difficult to read so be warned. A gripping thriller. 4🌟

Day 7 of #Top20Series #20Series20Days

Not ranking them but if I was this would be right towards the top, I love the Tony Hill / Carol Jordan Series. Have read them all and hope Val writes more! Some real twists and turns of fate for the two main characters in this series. The Wire in the Blood is one of my favourite all-time books, what a great character Jacko Vance was. 100% recommend this. Would happily read then all again,

Ruthiella That‘s really the appeal of long term detective series, isn‘t it - the development of the protagonists. I almost always forget the plots but remember the detectives! 4y
Andrew65 @Ruthiella Yes, I love long series for this, it is the personal life and issues that are often the strength of a good series, the actual cases can be also rans apart from some memorable murderers! 4y
Deblovestoread I read The Mermaids Singing years and years ago. I think I need to revisit it and read the rest as well. 4y

DGRachel I tried Mermaids years ago and bailed, but I gave Val another go last year with a stand-alone that I really loved. 4y
rwmg Was this the basis for the TV series? I used to watch it but then I went off it for some reason I can't remember now. 4y
Bluebird This is a new one for me. Sounds great! 4y
andrew61 Great choice, the Queen of crime. 4y
Andrew65 @andrew61 Most definitely, working my way through the Karen Piraeus series. 4y
Andrew65 @Bluebird I‘m sure you‘ll enjoy them. 4y
Andrew65 @rwmg Yes. I have them on DVD and need to watch them. I watched them many years ago. 4y
Andrew65 @Kdgordon88 I hope you enjoy them. 4y
Andrew65 @DGRachel I feel the series got better. 4y
andrew61 @Andrew65 yes ive read 3 and have the 4th sat somewhere. I haven't tried many of her stand alones so might look some up. 4y
Moony Oh the first book I read manx years ago. Now I'll read and hear the rest. A little bit late for your Readathon 🙈 3y

Solid police procedural, a little grisly but it was interesting to peek into their process and the complicated officer relationships. Always good to catch the bad guy but the ending was a little more open-ended than I generally like. I waffled between a pick and a so-so for this one but the strong characters win out for me in the end. #Booked2020 #tartannoir

My first Val Mcdermid book, and realized halfway through it's the second in series. This is a well written murder mystery. Psychological profiling used to hunt for the killer. I wont spoil the end but it is different!

Cathythoughts Looking forward to trying this author... soon 👍🏻 6y
Crazeedi @Cathythoughts it was a great read, I just wish I had read the first one before this, but it definitely can be read as a standalone 6y
wordzie I have Volume 2 of this although the one listed on Litsy was published in 2009 and mine is copyrighted 1981. Still the same author, but it sounds so good I want to go ahead and start it anyway! Would you? 6y
Crazeedi @wordzie I read tat book years ago, it was very good! Isn't shogun volume one of this series? 6y

So many great choices for #PsychoKilker but gone for one of my favourite psychological suspense series, The Tony Hill / Carol Jordan Series. A great combination, and some great interplay between these two. Gone for Book 2, Wire In The Blood, which has one of the great characters out there - Jacko Vance. This would make my top ten books!

So not up to date in this series!!

Andrew65 I love this book and series. The last book left me totally reeling. This is my favourite though, a great book and a great character in Jacko Vance. 6y
TrishB @Andrew65 I need to go back and see which one I‘m up to - I do love these though. 6y

I love the Dr Tony Hill / Carol Jordan Series, which would make my top ten list of series. However Wire in the Blood, Book 2, has to be my favourite one. It is a special book and a wonderful character in there called Jacko Vance.
Strongly strongly recommend.

Karkar Would these fall under cozy mystery? 6y

Andrew65 @Booksnchill Beautiful areas of the country. 6y
Moony Oh I read the first book of the series long time a go. It was a difficult theme, but a good book. Perhaps I should read more by the author. 6y
Andrew65 @Moony The first one is not my favourite, I think they only get better from there. Much prefer this series to her other books. 6y

#Novemberbythenumbers #two This has to be one of my favourite books, and certainly one of the best second books in a series I know. I love the Carol Jordan / Tony Hill Series but this is the best of them, and Jacko Vance was such a great character. If you haven't read it and you like Detective/Thriller/Psychological books I thoroughly recommend it.

#JuneBookBugs #day2 #LGBTQauthors This is a small stack of authors from my shelves that I had no idea were in this category. Maurice Sendak & Thomas Disch were a surprise, Val McDermid is married to her partner, which is brilliant, & Poppy.Z.Brite is in reality a trans man. So many creative people are LGBTQ along with the gene for their sexuality, there must be a FABULOUS! gene hitching a ride as well.🏳️‍🌈✨

RealLifeReading Yes! I only found out about Maurice Sendak recently! 7y

Can't beat Jacko Vance for a #dangeroustype. One of my favourite love to hate characters in one of my favourite books, love the Tony Hill / Carol Jordan Series (would make my top ten list) and this is the best one by far. If you haven't read it or the series give it a try, very psychological.

Bambolina_81 @Andrew65 I tried listening to Splinter the Silence on audio and I just could not get on with the narrator. I hope to go back and read it myself as I was enjoying the story. Your review has encouraged me to try again 😊 8y
Andrew65 @Bambolina_81 It is definitely one of my favourite favourite series. I agree, certainly far from my favourite narrator. He was the narrator for the versions of Wire in the Blood I listed need to it was Michael Tudor Barnes, although that version is no longer available on audible. A shame because he was excellent. Have you read the others in the series? (edited) 8y
andrew61 I do like the series and im deciding to read splinter soon, however the return of Jacko was a bit disappointing i thought, the original was gr8 though. 8y

Andrew65 @andrew61 Totaaly agree, The Retribution was very disappointing and didn't fit with the rhythm of the other books in the series. I was much happier with Splinter the Silence which I aim to read again before the new one is published in August. 8y
Cinfhen Need to stack this for my daughter....she loves these twiststy psychological thrillers! 8y
Andrew65 @Cinfhen In that case she should love this series, this would definitely make my top ten favourite series. 8y

#unlikeablecharacters For me one of the most unlikeable characters would have to come from one of my top ten books, Wire in the Blood. In this book we meet Jacko Vance, and he does reappear in The Retribution, a later book in the series.

If anyone doesn't know the Tony Hill / Carol Jordan series I thoroughly recommend them, one of my favourite series of all time. The books are very psychological and involve a profiler as well. Great characters.

TrishB And the relationship between them is so well written! 8y
Andrew65 @TrishB Very well written, so much so that one of the books got me in an agitated state for the way it developed. 😟 8y
