6-5-22: My 54th finished book of 2022! I‘m 1970,Bean, 12, and her sister Liz, 15, live in a small town in California. Their Mom is a singer who is always trying to find herself. One day, she doesn‘t return home and after being alone for too long, the girls decide to travel to their uncle in Virginia. Once there, they start school and get jobs and try to live a normal life. Until their employer gets out of hand. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣5️⃣4️⃣
A quick read with a somewhat predictable plot, but still enjoyable. Themes of mental health and racism.
“The Silver Star”, written by Jeanette Walls, is a novel that reflects the life of two little girls, Jean and Liz, trying their best to get by without a father figure and a mother figure most of the time. Their mother, an aspiring actress and singer, with no real success, constantly leaves the girls to meet with directors or other musicians to try and make a name for herself. After a meltdown with the girls, she packed her bags leaving the girls…
A easy, quick read that deals with some heavy topics relevant to what we hear on the news today. The difference between the news and the book is the main character‘s moral fortitude and positive attitude. I enjoyed being in her presence, and the book ended way too soon.
An interesting book, quite intriguing but not sure how I really feel about it. 3/5 Read as part of the #Buzzwordathon and #PopSugarReadingChallenge2021
Exactly what you would expect from a Jeannette Walls novel. Although this book is fiction it read like her other two books. Sisters who have to navigate life with an often absent mom who is dealing with mental health issues. I enjoyed the first half of the book but the second half was just ok for me. It was also fairly predictable. Loved the character Bean - it was nice to see a strong, fierce spirit inside of her while adults made bad decisions.
Started reading The Silver Star yesterday. Didn't get to far in but it is reading just like the other two Jeannette Walls books I've read. Interested to see how this book goes since the other two were memoirs and this one is fiction. I think it is going to be a fairly quick read (if I'm able to find the time to read).

Two sisters struggle through life‘s difficulties, many times on their own. They find support in their mother‘s home town.
Bean and her sister Liz travels to Virginia after there mom abandoned them I put pick because it is a heart warming story of growing up
Because I so loved her memoir "The Glass Castle," I was looking forward to this fictional work by Walls. I thought it started off strong and then quickly petered out to a faint whimper by the end. 2 stars
Here‘s the stack of books I won at comicon! What should I read first?
A nice departure from my post-apocalyptic run of reads... she really does tell great stories through the eyes of 12 year olds. A 1970s To Kill A Mockingbird?
Picked up this one, about #Livinginthe70s, at a secondhand store. Building my April reading list for #FreakyFriday 👍

Not as good as her memoirs although you can tell that she pulled from her own childhood experiences to put this novel together. Walls also narrated this audio book which was fine except that I felt she read the parts of Liz & Bean too young if that‘s possible.
Just finished this. It was pretty average. It covered a lot of issues —family secrets, mental illness, war, race relations, childhood neglect, tragedy. I liked the main character, Bean. She was a tough smart girl. I‘m looking forward to reading her other novel, The Glass Castle.
#DecDays Silver Star + Bell Jar = #SilverBells ive only read one holiday cozy and it was probably the WORST book I‘ve ever read 😖😫😬so I had to get somewhat “creative”for today‘s prompt. Silver Star is a coming of age story in the 70‘s and Bell Jar is a #feministclassic set in 1950‘s NYC.
Don't be afraid of your dark places. If you can shine a light on them, you'll find treasure there.
I read this after The Glass Castle, which I also loved. In a way, I wish I read Jeanette Walls' novels prior to her memoir because I already see the connection to her childhood in her novels. She's a great writer, easy reads for sure, which is definitely necessary sometimes!

This was an enjoyable story with interesting characters. I'd give it about 3.5 stars. It just wasn't as riveting as "The Glass Castle."
I liked this book in a lot of ways. The main character was really my favorite thing in this and the story was definitely compelling. I just felt like it needed more. There's a part of me that doesn't feel like I completely get what the point was in the end. I almost wanted more to bring it all together. I think she needed some more unity in her writing. But, overall I liked this one and would recommend it!
Such a beautiful paragraph. This will stay with me for a long time. 😍
This is not a WOW, run out & read right now but it is a simple, solid story. If you're familiar with Glass Castle then parts of this novel may seem autobiographical; Southern mom, artist, free spirit not really much for mothering...sisters who are wise beyond their years coming of age in 1970's south Virginia. Town Big Shot behaving badly, small minded individuals, breaking barriers and learning acceptance. More importantly- fulfills challenges❤️
Another library book that's due back this week. I loved Glass Castle so thought I'd see how Walls handles fiction. Obviously it satisfies some challenge boxes which seems to be an interesting way to fill your TBR😬💞
