Evening reading out of the box for me...only my 2nd graphic novel, but a good one!
This one started out not so good for me only because I am not a very religious person. However, it did move on from that and became a good story about the Japanese living in America during WWII. The religious aspect was important to a main character at the beginning, I just thought it didn‘t need quite as much.
Just could not get into it. Unfortunate since most people love it.
I think that the second half of this book was far better than the first as it really got into the characters & their history more. The beginning seemed kind of superficial & a little childish, but the rest redeemed it into being a decent read.
Not as good as her memoirs although you can tell that she pulled from her own childhood experiences to put this novel together. Walls also narrated this audio book which was fine except that I felt she read the parts of Liz & Bean too young if that‘s possible.
