Poems to break a reading slump✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love Amanda Lovelace.
Another excellent collection of poetry. This one didn‘t feel as wow as previous collections that may have just been me.
I love that she dedicates the book to Persephone.
Of course I loved this one, just like every single one of her others. Can‘t wait for more! 🖤
I just love her. I started to delve into this newest release earlier 🖤.
I love her so much. This is my feminism. So many great poems in yet another collection of hers.
Lovelace's poetry always speaks to my heart, and this collection was no different! I stand a bit taller; hold my head a little higher. ?
“if every other girl is queen anne's lace,
then i'm poison hemlock.
at first glance,
we look exactly the same,
until someone gets too close“

“i am the water.
i am the wine.
i am the very magic that turns one into the other.
meanwhile, he isn‘t shit.
why would I bother with someone who simply cannot compare?”
This felt like a quicker read then previous works, yet they feel more raw and powerful. Amanda‘s poems here alternate between flowers in a gentle soft hue to a fiery burning power. As she stated ahead, this is for Persephone; goddess of spring and the underworld. This book is about reminding us how women can be soft and fierce unapologetically. And I want to be known as both soft and fierce. This poem is me; with my heart on my sleeve

Double standards drive me crazy. If you‘re going to make a rule or other point, make it the same!

At times, the absolute bare bones of Lovelace‘s word choice can seem overly simplistic, but I think that adds to the rawness & vulnerability that we see. These poems are brief, yet biting.
I loved the illustrations included. They are brightly colored & juxtaposed with the darker content of some of the poems echoes the dichotomy of Persephone of the Spring and of the Underworld. Although these poems did feel slightly more disconnected. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Some late night #netgalley reading while I countdown to #Scarathlon2021! 🌻
What an absolutely stunning set of poems! Talk about female empowerment. Amanda Lovelace is such an excellent writer and her words really speak to me. These books should be mandatory for girls growing up to teach them self love, the importance of saying no, and that strength comes from within and not social media.
