I am four months older than the girl he once knew, and I now know how dangerous it is to love things.
Thank you so much for this surprise and for the sweet card Debra!! So thoughtful of you! Can‘t wait to read it 🧙♀️ 🖤

I received 3 copies of this book so I think the universe wants me to read it. I maybe tempting fate but not reading it yet…
This box was full to the brim of yummy goodness and I‘m not just talking about the candy! So many crafty things to try and a great sounding book. I love the picture frame and your card cracked me up! Thank you so much, Aletheia! 68 days to retirement and I already have things to keep me busy. Such a great #NightmareMakerSwap. Thanks for hosting, Ryan!
I'm not even sure how I feel about this book. The ending...I can't. I wasn't aware that I got so wrapped up in the story until it ended. Thankfully, I went ahead and borrowed the next book from the library because I have to know what happens next.
I wasn‘t sure what this book was going to be about before I read it. It was pretty good, but not sure if I‘m going to continue with the series.
Frances is attacked by her boss and it awakens her magic. She goes to an all girl school to learn to control her magic. And a bunch of stuff happens.

I will have to add the rest # later.
The sparkly cover and the goodreads description comparing this to The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy had me expecting a very different book. I liked it okay, but I might have liked it better if I had not gone in with with the wrong expectations. It's a good read for the season, though!
@Marmie7 here are the books that made it to the island with you. Enjoy your spooky reads!

I really enjoyed this book and though it has a slow start, it is completely worth it! I loved the characters and the plot twists and am very upset about the cliffhanger ending. I cannot wait for the second book to be released as I would love to know how the story continues and the characters develop!

I think the only choice any of us has is to take our pain and make a world that hurts its inhabitants a little less.
“So what do I do?” I ask my brother in the very last moments I‘ll ever have with him. “What do I do in a world without you?”
He smiles, and the moment is perfect, except it‘s not, because he‘s dead and I‘m still here.
“You live, silly.”
“You deserve a better world than this one, Lena. But I‘d walk to the ends of it with you, barbed wire and all.”
“I think sometimes you forget you're only seventeen.“
“I feel a hundred and fifty. And also maybe five. An elderly toddler. The world's oldest idiot. I know too much and nothing at all.“
He doesn't laugh at my joke but tilts his head to the side and looks at me. Quiety he whispers, “You're allowed to just be yoursels sometimes.“
Good girls don‘t steal daggers and break whiskey bottles over people‘s heads. Good girls don‘t have a fire in their chest that begs for more things to burn.
“I couldn't stay away from you. You've been haunting me my whole life.“
“Thank you for coming.“ I don't know why I say it. It isn't as if I asked him to appoint himself my protector.
“Always.“
Maxine is beautiful in the way boys are allowed to be, in a way that feels like defiance instead of a performance.
“The men are left to their own devices. They do what men do.”
“Destroy things? Hoard money? Fight each other?” Lena quips.
“Precisely.”
My heart stutters a beat; it‘s the only sensation that keeps me from believing that I am dead and in heaven, which is apparently in Queens.
A great historical story set in 1911 where a young woman working in and living with other girls in a sewing shop becomes a suspect in the murder of her boss when a couple of women wisk her off to a sanatorium for tuberculosis, which actually turns out to be a school for witches. All kinds of mayhem ensues. This was a great read and I loved the audio.
This was a well detailed, Magically Realistic, Historical Fantasy set in 1911 New York. We saw the classism and misogyny of the times which, sadly, we still have too much of today. It was a coming of age & into one's powers whodunit centered around a 17 yo girl who finds out she's magical after some seriously bad events & wants to learn how to wield said power so she can avenge her brother's murder. Overall: this was a great audiobook!
4.3⭐️ this story was so slow at first I almost DNF it, but I‘m so glad I keep going. It had some great twist at the end that thew me, and it ended up being so good. #TeamHendrix #scarathlon2021 #scarathlon
4.5✨ I was going into this thinking it was going to be just another witch book, but no! This started with a bang, had a minor hic-up to get you bored on purpose, to slam you into action packed fun. I got thrown off from her brothers killer to have my jaw drop literally for minutes while I processed. If you like witch stories or you don‘t really care for them like me you should read this. #irlbookclub #bookspin October
It‘s been quite awhile since I‘ve been on Litsy. I had to take some me time and get myself right. But I‘ve missed it here. So much ♥️
Haven‘t read much lately but this book arrived the other day and it sounds like it could be pretty good. A good book to bring in the fall time 🍁
Loved the setting—1911 NYC—and the premise, a story about witches & an academy that trains young women so they can manage their powers & move about freely in society. The main character is likable, if a little whiny, & there are plenty of interesting secondary characters. Ultimately, the book felt a little long with an okay story (it got bogged down in the middle) but it ended on a good cliffhanger. Good but slow YA fantasy read. On sale 8/31/21.
Diving into a YA ARC about witches in 1911 New York. So far, so good. It‘s definitely holding my attention!
