Tricia Miles must swim against the tide to catch a killer when Haven't Got A Clue's assistant manager is accused of murder in the latest entry to Lorna Barrett's New York Times bestselling Booktown series. Haven't Got A Clue bookshop owner Tricia Miles's relationship is on the rocks. After a not-so-fun vacation with her on-again-off-again lover, Marshall Cambridge, Tricia's hoping for smooth sailing back in Stoneham. Unfortunately Booktown greets her not with blue skies but with another body. When Tricia's assistant manager, Pixie, finds homeless vet Susan Morris's body behind Haven't Got A Clue, Pixie's checkered past makes her the prime suspect. Tricia sets out to clear Pixie's name armed with only an anchor insignia earring found at the scene of the crime. As Tricia digs deeper she discovers Susan was involved in a scandal right before retiring from the Navybut since nobody in the village knows Susan, even Tricia's one lead is in danger of drying up. With family drama brewing in the background and all of Stoneham convinced her manager is a murderer, Tricia knows she has to get to the bottom of the case soon before Pixie's life is sunk.

Once I finish this, I‘m 99% sure I won‘t continue with the series. Tricia is a judgy bitch, and her obsession with food and gaining weight is obnoxious. Not to mention, the writing is just getting bad. Although I love Mr. Everett so much, there‘s not enough of him to make this worth it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #booktownmysteries #lornabarrett #cozymystery #handbookforhomicide

Fortifiedbybooks I struggled with this book as well, but managed to get through it and find out the reason behind Tricia's obsession with food, weight, and being judgmental. The next book, A Deadly Deletion was better, but Clause of Death was the last straw for me. I barely got through it. It's a shame, too, because this was the series that got me into Cozy Mysteries. 4h
actualdisneyprincess @Fortifiedbybooks I‘m pretty sure her obsession with food was explained in a previous book, and I thought I remembered her acknowledging it and beginning to heal from it; the characterization here seems to ignore that completely and just reverts to her worst self. I feel your disappointment, though! This was one of my favorite series until now. 🫠 4h
Fortifiedbybooks I do remember the issue coming up previously, but I feel like this book went into more detail about it, possibly for the sake of bringing social issues into the series. That was the main reason (besides the bad writing) I finally bailed. I don't want to read about social issues in my Cozy Mysteries. I want to escape from the social issues/reality LOL To me, that's the whole point of Cozies. 4h
actualdisneyprincess @Fortifiedbybooks right???? There‘s a way to touch on them without making them feel like Very Special Episodes of 80s/90s television, or holier-than-thou, savior complexes, and unfortunately…this doesn‘t do it. 🙃 4h

21 #27 I have always had a love/hate relationship with this series. I like the premise. I enjoy the mystery but can‘t stand any of the characters. I find the main character whiny, judgmental and entitled. Every other character is mean spirited or weird. The sister has become the most likable and she‘s not all that. I had noticed these traits in the other books but seemed to be magnified in this one. Every character just annoyed me.
