I appreciated that this book brought to light the plight of the Chinese aboard the Titanic, but it felt very middle grade with a 17 year old MC.

For today‘s #boat prompt, here‘s two books about the Titanic. The tagged book is from my #read stack & the other is from my #TBR 🚢
Stacey Lee has quickly become one of my favorite historical fiction writers. This one is set on the Titanic and focuses on twins Jamie and Valora, who are Chinese acrobats. It also highlights the discrimination against Chinese people that was prevalent at that time.
Well, I fell behind again. It happens so fast! 🤣
A pick for Luck and a book from my TBR for Family. Prompts 8 & 9 for the #BigJuneReadathon #photochallenge @Clwojick

A dozen books with some form of #luck in the title. The first six I‘ve read, the next six are from my Kindle #TBR 🍀🍀🍀
I‘ve been obsessed with Titanic since 1997 — thank you Leonardo DiCaprio — and have wanted to read this since I got it with a handmade book sleeve last year — thank you Stacey Lee.
I enjoyed the historical aspects (Ringling Bros, the inspiration of real-life Chinese Titanic survivors), but the last 1/4 felt like a movie ripoff and the simile/metaphor every paragraph REALLY annoyed me.

Very well written historic fiction about the Titanic and Chinese discrimination. You got so into the story, you could‘ve forgot it was the doomed Titanic. Really felt the down trodding feelings everyone gave them. Also felt the pull of growing up so close to a sibling, and as you age up you grow apart. Life happens.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another fantastic book by Stacey Lee! She‘s becoming one of my favorite historical fiction writers! This one highlighted the discrimination against the Chinese passengers of the Titanic. Yet another example of why I cannot think of the Titanic as a glamorous ship. I see more disgusting flaws than I do beauty. Definitely recommend this one. Thank you #sundaybuddyread and @TheBookHippie for a great discussion!!
Although I dabble in YA fantasy & contemporary, I think YA historical fiction is my sweet spot. Stacey Lee writes such strong characters & her books give me a different perspective on history. We know what happened to the Titanic & the last quarter of the book was intense, but the entire story was a pleasure to read. It had me thinking & Googling-always a good sign in a historical novel. This will likely end up on my 2022 favorites list. Thanks ⬇️
I had to wait for a library copy, so was very late to start this month‘s #SundayBuddyRead… but then when I did I absolutely couldn‘t stop until it was done. My first by Stacey Lee, and I just loved her writing, the characters, and the lovely story. Even knowing how the story would end (generally), I still found it to be fresh and fun to read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
As with most stories about the Titanic, this one was full of tension and anticipation knowing the events to come. However, Lee manages to create a story within this broader tale that gives you moments where you almost forgot what was about to happen with such an interesting perspective and vivid characters. Worth a read for a new look at a familiar tale. Also: the last 1/4 of the book is impossible to put down. #sundaybuddyread
This is a great story that hasn‘t been told about the Chinese on the Titanic.
