You Love Me: A You Novel | Caroline Kepnes
120 posts | 67 read | 2 reading | 37 to read
The highly anticipated new thriller in Caroline Kepnes's hit You series, now a blockbuster Netflix show . . . Joe Goldberg is back. And he's going to start a family--even if he has to kill for one. Joe Goldberg is done with cities, done with the muck and the posers, done with Love. Now, he's saying hello to nature, to Washington pines, flannel, and saltwater spray. For the first time in a long time, he can just breathe. Joe knows a thing or two about books, so he gets a job at the local library, where he meets her. How could he not fall for the bookish, sweet librarian Mary Kaye? He shouldn't meddle, he shouldn't obsess. That's what the old Joe would do. It's called growth: No. More. Bodies. He'll win her the old fashioned way, by being his old-fashioned, charming self. Her shoulder to cry on. Over time, they'll both heal their wounds and start a life together in this sleepy town. But then he meets her deadbeat husband, her nosy friend, her meerkat-looking daughter. They're complicated things and Joe sees everything so clearly. Maybe he can help Mary Kaye see things clearly, too. He can help her forge a better life with him . . . a simpler life.

Joe. Oh Joe. I think it's over. It's me, not you. Okay, maybe it's a little You.
This book dragged. Finally, I skimmed the last 100 pages or so.
It should have had it all. A quaint town, a library, and crazy lovable JOE. But it was boring, something Joe usually isn't. I even switched to audiobook because Santino Fontana is MY Joe; but even he couldn't do it for me.
Thanks to #NetGalley for a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

At first I was SO HAPPY to be back in Joe‘s mixed up brain 🧠 and I was really digging his witty self banter but by hour 3 I began to lose interest and by hour 5 I lost patience. BUT then the last 3 hours of audio picked up & although the book went completely 🦇💩cuckoo…Im not quite over Joe. Book 4 coming out April 2023 😛EXCELLENT narration 🙌🏻 so this was a mixed bag - needed to be edited but still a pick.

TheDaysGoBy I agree with a lot of that. Stuff really hit the fan which really picked up the end of it. But yes, the narrator is supreme. One of the rare fiction reads I insist on listening to 2y
Cinfhen I don‘t think I‘m familiar with the narrator @TheDaysGoBy but I‘ll be looking for more books read by him. He definitely sold this book for me. He elevated Joe! 2y
Megabooks Yeah, this wasn‘t her best, but Santino‘s voice can do no wrong! 2y

britt_brooke @CBee Whew! I was beginning to think I was the only one. 😅 2y
CBee @britt_brooke hated just about every minute of it 😂 I will say that the show was twisty good though. It‘s one case where I thought the show was better than the book 🫢 2y
britt_brooke @CBee That‘s good to know! 😂 2y

I was super surprised to find this at a Kyobo in Seoul, so I had to get it. I love Joe and his murderous antics, what can I say? This was a fun read, but doesn‘t come close to the first “You.”

Third book in the YOU series. I thought the first two books were exciting, but this one felt really lackluster. Maybe after two books & three TV seasons it just doesn't feel as fresh anymore. Mary Kay isn't very interesting and the "oh shit" moment doesn't happen til the very end; and when it does the conclusion just falls flat and feels unfinished. It would have made an interesting conflict in the middle of the book rather than an ending.

Blueberry I've never seen or read this series. 2y

😩😟😭I‘m giving this a pick even though it got swiped back before I could finish. Libby shows no mercy. Libby doesn‘t care if you‘re 32 chapters into the book when your time is up. Libby doesn‘t care if you‘re literally listening to it when the buzzer rings. GONE! I know this one‘s a pick though because being in Joe‘s head is funny and disturbing and thoroughly entertaining! So I put it on hold once again…

GirlNamedJesse Just fyi if your wi-fi/data is off, then I don‘t think Libby CAN take back your book…😉 3y

I started skim-reading this about a third of the way in. Near the end I got more interested, but then the actual ending was bad. I liked You, didn‘t really like Hidden Bodies, and found Joe just creepy and disturbing in this one. I mean, he‘s always been creepy and disturbing, but somehow likable in You. Here, he‘s just a sad sociopath who needs mental help. And the story is completely unbelievable. No more for me!

LOVED this latest installment much more than I thought I would. I think it‘s great how the show and the books are diverging and am now excited to watch the third season. I hope they consider bringing in elements of this storyline eventually because it was super entertaining. Love Joe and this audiobook narrator!

I forgot to put this book in one of the free squares 🤨 Oh well—I wouldn‘t have a #bookspinbingo anyway!

Pretty good but not great reading month. $15.28 for #pennyperpage.

tokorowilliamwallace How do you decide the placements for books/numbers and free squares? It doesn't look like the numbers from the list are in order? Are you supposed to place the first number picks from your list first on the board in a certain order? 3y

I liked this one a lot more than Hidden Bodies—it felt like a return to the Joe we hate to love and things not going weirdly, irrationally well for him. The only things that go well are because he‘s managed to convince people that he‘s such a great guy… and some things go very badly for him because of that. And so many characters that are so delicious to hate, just like in You!

I still feel like Love makes no sense though.

Clare-Dragonfly But… Joe didn‘t kill anybody in this book?! It was hilarious how many people “just happened” to die around him, but for a Joe book there was a distinct lack of murder. 3y

This was a good addition to the series. I definitely didn‘t love this one as much as I loved the first two, but I think it was because a lot of it was becoming a bit unbelievable for me. Overall, I was on the edge of my seat through most of it and there were definitely some twists that took me by surprise. It was so different than the show which I really liked because I was able to enjoy both for what they were!

This is kind of a low pick for me. I listened to it and the audio experience was just as enjoyable as with the other two. I think I liked the story more with this one than with Hidden Bodies but, as is typical, the first book was the best.

I love Joe‘s commentary about society/social norms and while there was some in this, not as much as You. By the end things spiraled into craziness but it was a fun read

I was so hyped for this book as I was obsessed with the first two in the series, but this didn't hit the same. I listened to the audiobook and I slowly listened over a couple months. Joe didn't seem to fit his characterization from the previous books, and the beginning of this book felt like a far jump from where the last ended. The ending was also abrupt. I still enjoyed aspects, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

#2021Book55
All of the best characters from the first two books are either dead or show up for only a few pages in this one, and the new characters introduced just aren't as interesting. Joe has, in his own words, gotten soft. All his actions that made the first two books exciting turn into accidents or coincidences this time. I don't know if Kepnes wanted to make him more likable and less of a "bad guy," but instead it just made him kind of lame.

It‘s pretty clear that this book was written in response to the popularity of the Netflix series. The beginning reused elements of the first book, the middle was actually decent, and the end was just WEIRD. How no one on this island questioned a bunch of a dead bodies is beyond me. Skip it. #netgalley

Clare-Dragonfly Oh dear. I was hoping this would be a return to what I liked about the first book after I found the second weird and disappointing… 3y

One of my most anticipated reads for 2021 and it exceeded all of my expectations. I love being in Joe Goldberg's world and inside his mind. I know I shouldn't love him so much given what he does to anyone who thinks is in his way but I cannot help but love him a little. Another addictive page turner from Caroline Kepnes it had me mesmerised from the very first chapter. The only negative I have about it is that I am always left wanting more Joe!

Joe has found love, and he is going to do everything right this time. Mary Kay loves books, just like Joe, but the best part is she loves Joe back!

There‘s just one problem.

She is married and also has a teenage daughter.

But when has Joe let other people get in his way? He will be Mary Kay‘s shoulder to cry on, her rock. Til the end.

Not quite as good as You, but I still enjoyed the story. That ending still has my mind spinning!

Alfoster Love this series!❤️ 4y

Finished this up sort of #audiosouping making a quick cold cucumber soup with shrimp from Ina. Santino Fontana rocked the narration—he is why I must listen & not read these books. Dark, twisty & between Keynes‘ writing & Fontana‘s spot on narration, you can‘t help but root for sociopath Joe to get some happiness. A great addition to the series, this hit somewhere in the middle for me between You & Hidden Bodies. Good set up for the next book too.
