I liked this but found parts of it over the top. I liked the descriptions of the wilderness & the methods Alex used to study wolverines. I didn't like the absolutely bananapants criminal activity that she stumbled across, spoilers below, a& I found Alexis annoyingly preachy. Even when I agree with the message, which I do in this case-

bookandbedandtea the importance of animal conservation & combating climate change- I'm becoming less tolerant of authors shoving their shoving their opinions at me. 4w
bookandbedandtea The illegal trophy hunting scheme lost its credibility w me when I read the list of animals caged & ready to be hunted: rhinoceros, polar bear, elephant! There were plenty other exotic animals & the whole concept makes me sick but it also made me roll my eyes & took me out of the story. How are they shipping an elephant in secretly? And even if you manage that how are you continually bringing in huge animals- &big game hunters!-w/o ANYONE noticing? 4w

My first time reading Alice Henderson and it will not be my last. Wilderness, biology and a nail biting mystery! I look forward to checking out the next book in the series.

A completely random pick at a bookstore turned out to be a fabulous pick. I was actually drawn to the second book first (A Blizzard of Polar Bears - how can you not love the title?) and glad I picked them both up.

Ehhhh…the first 2/3 of this book was pretty good. Kind of slow, but not terrible and I enjoyed learning about wolverines. The minute a gorilla showed up though, and a random gunman, and a town full of murderers, it became too far fetched for me.

After a breakup and a life-threatening experience in Boston, wildlife biologist Alex Carter heads to the Rocky Mountains in Montana to survey wolverines at an abandoned ski resort turned land trust. She quickly runs into trouble with some of the residents in the area. This fast-paced thriller had a twist I never imagined and left a question unanswered. I have to pick up the next in the series soon.

There was a point where I thought things had taken a really wrong turn somehow but all was made clear and then a lot of things clicked into place. Already looking forward to book two. Loved the Em Hansen mysteries by Sarah Andrews and the Anna Pigeon series from Nevada Barr. Alex Carter has that same naturalist spirit. Excited to continue this series.

What an incredible book! I love Alex Carter. She is a strong, intelligent, resourceful, principled, kind-hearted, kick-ass, animal-loving biologist. Montana, mountains, abandoned resort, ghosts(?), Sasquatch(?), wolverines, land preserve resentment, poaching, murder, it‘s all here. So. Much. Suspense. I can‘t wait for the next book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bklover Oh yay! Starting this now! 3y

I loved this fast paced thriller. The action starts almost immediately, and the about 3/4 through there‘s a twist that‘s just WHAT?! I‘ll definitely read more in this series.

DogMomIrene Oh this sounds similar to The Most Dangerous Game. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 4y

Just starting out. I can't remember who suggested this one, but I'm looking for a chilly thriller cuz I can't focus on much else!

Dr Alex Carter has recently survived a shooting, and takes a spur of the moment job offer to track wolverines in an isolated wildlife preserve in Montana. From the moment she arrives the locals treat her with suspicion, she feels like she is being followed. She encounters a seriously injured man roaming in the snow and when she brings paramedics back to save him, he's nowhere to be found. This story isthrilling and (literally) chilling!

A slower book than I hoped for. It seemed like the last 1/4 of the book had all the action. Keeping it short and sweet with this: ok-good but not great. 🤷‍♀️ 🌟🌟🌟 #netgalley #williammorrow
