Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass
Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass | Lana Del Rey
14 posts | 19 read | 11 to read
THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT BOOK OF POETRY FROM LANA DEL REY, VIOLET BENT BACKWARDS OVER THE GRASS 'Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is the title poem of the book and the first poem I wrote of many. Some of which came to me in their entirety, which I dictated and then typed out, and some that I worked laboriously picking apart each word to make the perfect poem. They are eclectic and honest and not trying to be anything other than what they are and for that reason Im proud of them, especially because the spirit in which they were written was very authentic. Lana Del Rey Lanas breathtaking first book solidifies her further as 'the essential writer of her times' (The Atlantic). The collection features more than thirty poems, many exclusive to the book: Never to Heaven, The Land of 1,000 Fires, Past the Bushes Cypress Thriving, LA Who Am I to Love You?, Tessa DiPietro, Happy, Paradise Is Very Fragile, Bare Feet on Linoleum and many more. This beautiful hardcover edition showcases Lanas typewritten manuscript pages alongside her original photography. The result is an extraordinary poetic landscape that reflects the unguarded spirit of its creator. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is also brought to life in an unprecedented spoken word audiobook which features Lana Del Rey reading fourteen select poems from the book accompanied by music from Grammy Award-winning musician Jack Antonoff.

I read this once when it was first published. Wanted to give it a quick reread before reviewing. Any fan of Lana Del Rey will probably appreciate this collection of poems. I really enjoyed it both times I read it. Hope she writes more.

🎧 8-23-22 || My monthly poetry pick for August ✔️ I‘m trying to branch out with newer-to-me genres and this is a spoken word audiobook with selected poems and accompanying music. If you like Lana Del Rey‘s music you‘ll probably like this. It‘s not really for me, but I‘m glad to have tried something different!

Our photo shoot didn‘t quite go as planned.

I like Lana‘s music. I do think she can be a little self-indulgent, but that‘s kind of her brand. These poems are definitely in that vein. I probably would‘ve connected to them emotionally a little more in my 20s. She‘s still a talented poet and the musicality of her style translates very well.

Happy #LLWS opening day!! 🤗🎁 Thank you so much @Soubhiville ! I am so lucky! I ALMOST bought the Lana Del Ray book last week, but I resisted the urge. I am so glad I did! I love her. I cannot wait to read The House in the Cerulean Sea with my son. The boutique coffee is perfection *chef's 💋* ☕ and the little Narwhal pin is so cute and perfectly complements The Cerulean Sea! 🐋 I am over the moon with my goodies! @Bookgoil @rsteve388 ❤💚

First I just have to preface this review by saying that I am a huge fan of Lana Del Rey. I‘ve always resonated well with her songs so that made me super eager to read her poetry.

This poetry collection is very atmospheric. Reading the poems is like being transported to a sunny and dreamy day in LA. It‘s very on brand for Lana Del Rey.

This massively exceeded my expectations. I get a bit nervous about poetry books by celebrities, but this was wonderful. As I hope for from Lana Del Ray, it was deliciously melodramatic, glamorous, a little sad, the photos and typewritten words were things I wish I could have decorated my teenage bedroom is. Gloriously huge emotions, sensitive rhyme and rhythm, all round just really good.

Nute How was this? What is a songwriter if not a poet? I plan to read this one day. 4y

I‘ve been a LDR fan since forever, and I love her even more as she gets weirder and more Lana than ever! On her first poetry collection, she speaks over an ambient soundtrack provided by Jack Antonoff. Some her phrases make me roll my eyes, but then she‘ll come at with a brilliant image. Clocking in at under 40 minutes, it‘s easy to listen to on repeat. It reminds me of the spoken word jazz poems Peggy Lee does on her album Sea Shells. 🏝 🌊 🌸
