Her Nightly Embrace
Her Nightly Embrace: Book I of the Ravi PI Series | Adi Tantimedh
13 posts | 8 read | 12 to read
The first in a trilogy of whip-smart novelscurrently in development as a TV series set to star Sendhil Ramamurthy (NBCs Heroes and Heroes Reborn)about a destructive private investigator and his eccentric coworkers, who handle cases so high-profile that they never make the headlines. Ravi Chandra Singh is the last guy youd expect to become a private detective. A failed religious scholar, he now works for Golden Sentinels, an upmarket London private investigations agency. His colleagues are a band of gleefully amoral and brilliant screw-ups: Ken and Clive, a pair of brutal ex-cops who are also a gay couple; Mark Chapman, a burned-out stoner hiding a great mind; Marcie Holder, a cheerful former publicist; Benjamin Lee, a techie prankster from South London; David Okri, an ambitious lawyer from a well-connected Nigerian immigrant family; and Olivia Wong, an upper-class Hong Kong financial analyst hiding her true skills as one of the most dangerous hackers in the worldall under the watchful eye of Roger Golden, wheeler-dealer extraordinaire, and his mysterious office manager, Cheryl Hughes. Thrust into a world where the rich, famous, and powerful hire him to solve their problems and wash their dirty laundry, Ravi finds himself in over his head with increasingly gonzo and complex cases and the recent visions that hes been having of Hindu gods arent helping. As Ravi struggles to stay ahead of danger, he wonders if the things hes seeing are a delusion or if he might, in fact, be an unrecognized shaman of the modern world...

I‘m not sure how to review this one. I finished it, so I did want to find out how it ended, but there were chunks of the book where I just didn‘t care. I‘d struggle through and then something would happen to draw me back to the story. I think this means there could have been better editing.

Starting this on a 15 minute break. The second book came through for a patron and the plot was so intriguing I had to find the first. Sounds a bit like Ben Aarondovich‘s series, but in this the MC is Ravi Chandra Singh who is a London private detective who also sees Hindu Gods during moments of high anxiety and stress. 👍

Fun and entertaining mysteries solved by a crew of characters. Fast-paced and interwoven cases. Has some elements of Janet Evanovich, Elmore Leonard and Blake Crouch. Has been picked up for TV series. May make a more entertaining series than book. #netgalley

AlaMich This is a new one to me but it sounds super interesting! 7y

So if, like me, you‘ve read all of Ben Aaronovich‘s Peter Grant books and are looking for something to tide you over until the next one, this fits the bill nicely. Very similar feel and sense of humor. There‘s no magic use, but Ravi does see gods (mostly Hindu) and doesn‘t like it. He also works for a private investigation firm with some VERY exclusive clients, and life just keeps getting weirder... Lots of fun.

Ravi is a former teacher and one-time religious scholar who has visions of Hindu gods and goddesses when he is under stress. He works for a private detective agency in London with a diverse group of talented outcasts--stoner IT guy, hackers, a pair of brutal ex-cops who are also a gay couple- solving problems for exclusive clientele. This was a fun read for me---full of humor, interesting cases and quick-paced. And, Lord Vishnu tweets!

Ravi is an interesting protagonist, but part of what makes him interesting is that he's a Lawful Good character surrounded by Chaotic Neutrals and Lawful Evils, and he has to constantly square his morality with his colleagues' much looser morality (or seeming lack of it), and the world's chaos. There's some issues with foreshadowing but it's easy to ignore them in favour of focusing on the plot instead. Full review here: http://wp.me/p21txV-xA

I'm still a bit prickly and burned out from the results of the recent you-know-what and this is inspiring my current book choices. The Underground Railroad, The Mothers, Swing Time all take up space in my tbr abyss but I don't want a heavy read right now. I ran across this cover while looking through my books and have been hypnotized by Ravi's dreamy face 😍😘so he and I will be spending some quality time together! ❤️📚

... Yes, I judge books by their covers. 100% guilty as charged. But how could I possibly say no to a book with that face on it - especially when it's in front of a really interesting urban fantasy? Also this has a TV show in the works, and I am SO looking forward to seeing that too.

DeborahSmall I love Sendhil Ramamurthy, gorgeous and great actor of course 😍 8y
kammartinez @DeborahSmall He is just soooo good-looking XD. I remember seeing him on Heroes and just going "Hel-LO, gorgeous!" I'm looking forward to seeing this show once it hits TV :D. 8y
DeborahSmall I loved Heroes and Heroes Reborn. I've watched him most recently in Spike Lee's Lucky Man. Very good 😊 8y

A great twist to the PI trope involving a group of failures and misfits with specific skillsets and Hindu gods lurking around, following the main character. Fast-paced and filled with snappy dialogue, I really enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to the next volume! 👍🏻I received an ARC for review.
