Eerie and sly, White Fox is a trap waiting to be sprung. I was completely enthralled. Rory Power, New York Times-bestselling author of Wilder Girls After their world-famous actor mother disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Manon and Thas left their remote Mediterranean island homesent away by their pharma-tech tycoon father. Opposites in every way, the sisters drifted apart in their grief. Yet their mother's unfinished story still haunts them both, and they can't put to rest the possibility that she is still alive. Lured home a decade later, Manon and Thas discover their mothers legendary last work, long thought lost: White Fox, a screenplay filled with enigmatic metaphors. The clues in this dark fairytale draw them deep into the island's surreal society, into the twisted secrets hidden by their glittering family, to reveal the truth about their motherand themselves. Mehso-so

I'm undecided on this one. The setting and characters are interesting and the dynamic of the sister relationship is very good-too many twists and turns and characters to keep me following the storyline well. I can't decide if its a focus problem--a product of my life as a teacher/coach/simultaneously teaching in person students and virtual during a pandemic or if I just couldn't follow the plot. I really wanted to like it...maybe a summer re-read?

This just wasn't for me. I had high hopes based on the synopsis but sadly nothing about this grabbed me.

Pickpick

I requested and got this ARC from NetGalley, and started reading without knowing much about it. I found it a little difficult to get into and also found the character development lacking. Likewise, the plot was a bit rickety. But I‘m calling it a pick due to some very evocative writing, lovely moments of prose and use of metaphor, and a compelling overall story - even if it wasn‘t quite fleshed out enough. Almost fantasy, YA fare. #petsoflitsy

I don‘t think I ever actually drink tea out of this mug? It‘s more about the sentiment I think 😂 excited to start this one! I LOVED The Tenth Girl so I‘m hoping this one is just as good.

readordierachel Love the mug 😆 4y
BarbaraJean Oh, I love this mug! I have a pencil case that says “Books make me happy. You, not so much.” Same sentiment... 😂 4y

Pickpick

I won a copy of this book from Fierce Reads on Instagram and I was so excited to read it!

This is a mystery but it‘s pretty unique. The story follows two sisters trying to figure out what happened to their mom who went missing when they were children. It alternates between each of their perspectives, a movie manuscript, and occasionally adding in a news article or things like that. The latter is a little inconsistent. (Continued below)

Battledoll I really enjoyed the plot. It was interesting and unexpected, but I never got attached to any of the characters. The island in which the story takes place and it‘s culture is well developed. It‘s familiar but also slightly strange. The characters, however, are mainly plot devices aside from the sisters. They appear then disappear and we never hear from them again. Also, some of their behaviors seem out of character but is never explained. 4y
Battledoll Is it because the main characters misunderstood them? Did they have some other motivation? It becomes too obvious that they‘re just there to transition another character to the next scene. If you like character driven stories this might not be your favorite. I also loved the author‘s writing style, aside from some cringey moments at the start. I will definitely read more of her work. 4y
