My favorite part is when the owl is practically face to face with the child. I thought this experience with the owl was a good way to spend their first time going owling with their father.
This story follows a child and their father going owling (searching for owls). In the snowy night the child and father continue walking. They\\\'re looking for a Great Horned Owl, so the father does his best call. Eventually they are eye to eye with an owl. They look at each other for a few minutes. Suddenly, the owl flies away and the father and child start towards home.
I could use this book in my classroom to discuss patience and observation. I could teach about being present in the moment, which can lead to discussions on mindfulness and the importance of quiet observation. It could also be used for a figurative language lesson since the book uses a lot of descriptive imagery and language.

This is a calming realistic fiction story about a boy and his Pa going owling together. There is a lot of figurative language in the story specifically metaphors and similies that could go along with a lesson. I would read this novel to a third-grade classroom as I think the students would be very interested in it and could understand the figurative language. I would definitely recommend reading this story in your class!

For one minute, three minutes, maybe even a hundred minutes, we stared at one another.
Overall, an okay read. I personally didn't take much interest into the book just from just picking off the shelf to read. But I sense that it probably has a great story or history to it and if I knew that it would probably be more interesting.
1988 Caldecott Medal winner. Owl moon by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr is a child and their father going owling in the night. I didn't find this book to interesting but the story about a dad spending time with his child is nice.
A story about a father who takes his young child to look for and seek out owls in the night during winter. They go on an adventure to find owls that night and they came across a great horned owl that called back to them. The point of this story is to teach you the importance of bravery and self-control. How going on an adventure might take time to find what you are looking for but you will eventually get there.

Owl Moon tells us about a girl and her father who go owling in the late nights of winter. The books lesson is bravery and goal setting. I would rate this book a 3/5. I liked the plot but feel as if the illustration was very dark and gloomy and it was wordy (you may lose some childrens attention).
