Amelia Bedelia's First Library Card
Amelia Bedelia's First Library Card | Herman Parish
8 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
Generations of children have fallen in love with Amelia Bedelia, the housekeeper so literal-minded that she puts sponges in her sponge cake and pitches a tent by throwing it into the woods. Now fans can find out what Amelia Bedelia was like when she was a little girl just starting school. In the picture book Amelia Bedelia's First Library Card, young Amelia Bedelia and her classmates visit the library. Exploring the shelves of books, volunteering at the front desk, and meeting the librarians is so fun! But Amelia Bedelias favorite part is getting her very own library card. Amelia Bedelias First Library Card is a love letter to reading, libraries, librarians, and books. Author Herman Parish is a nephew of Peggy Parish, the creator of Amelia Bedelia.

Buechersuechtling The slogan of the ALA is definitely true. I know, I got one since the age of five, I‘d say. I wasn‘t able to read yet but all the audio dramas they had. 😍 I very well remember to have bagged my father every second weekend to go with me to the library with me so that I could get new ear-feed. 5y

I‘m slightly embarrassed to say it since I‘ve been living in my town for a little over 3 years now, but... oh well. Today I got a library card 📚📚📚 I think the last time I had one was pre-internet, so I was shocked to learn how things have changed lol So psyched!! 😁

Took a stroll on this sunny day to get my first library card in at least 15 years. Stopped at the Target next door and bought a few things as well.

While walking home, had a middle school boy catcall me from the back of his school bus. Hmmmm...

⚀ I probably had one from about a year old
⚁ It used to be in person but I hardly use it now. One of my resolutions next year is to use my library more
⚂ No see ⬆️
⚃ Yes! (Just)
⚄ When I was younger, probably as many as I could. Now probably around 2-3

What a fun flashback! Amelia Bedelia is a Realistic Fiction series that follows Amelia as she takes every duty she is assigned literally! It's a great read for kids because they need prior knowledge of multi meaning words. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/amelia-bedelia-cl... #UCFLAE3414sp17

HeyMsBowen Amelia Bedelia! She was my life when I was younger. 😂 Awesome read!!! 8y
DrSpalding I love that you included this particular site. This should be a go to for quality lesson ideas with books. 8y

Day 7 of #riotgrams is local library. I've been an avid library user for as long as I can remember & I've been going to the same local library for over a decade. The Calgary Public Library system no longer requires a membership fee for any library account anymore which is amazing. They are currently in the process of building a new central library which looks amazing! Like Arthur said, "having fun isn't hard when you've got a library card!"

Now for #Dressesoncovers I had to go into my children's book collection.
I particularly recommend Amelia Bedelia's series for ENL students. Every time I present one to my classroom (and I've done so up to middle school) the kids get a kick out of the homonyms. As well as the silliness that unfolds whenever Amelia tries to do something new.
