Easily one of my favorites this year! Beautiful love story with a couple, Naya & Jake, who are perfectly imperfect but so right together.

A cute romance with a good balance of humor and seriousness. I enjoyed it but do wish they would have spent more time discussing their pasts as both went through some things that could and did affect their relationship.

It really warms my heart to see this community come together and take a moment in memory of Sharon. I didn't know her well, but she was always kind to interact with.

Audiobook motivation to go out in the cold and run errands.

This was good, will certainly stay with me for some time (TW: abusive relationship with ex), but too much happened during the last third of the book. And Jake was a bit too squeaky clean; did I miss his flaws?

This gem popped up on my instagram feed in a stack by one of my favorite bookstagrammers. I immediately borrowed it. I was not disappointed. Naya, the heroine, picks up a guy at a bar in attempt to find herself again. The nerdy humor is adorable and I loved the slow build of her self confidence returning after an abusive relationship. It was a relationship that felt genuine to me. Full of real life messy.

Loved it! Naya and Jake had chemistry and banter, were both math nerds, and yes, had baggage. Enjoyed how they opened up with each other and how Naya found her voice after dealing with domestic abuse and professional sabotage from her ex. The conflict caused by their jobs was also interesting to watch unfold. Like how things finally got resolved. Will definitely check out future books from this author.

I absolutely loved this book. Features a smart, successful woman. Diverse female lead. Banter is perfection. Will most definitely read it again. TW: domestic abuse (not by the hero)

Maybe I just wasn‘t in the mood for this one... it was fine, but I thought it was kind of boring and I didn‘t really feel anything for the characters or their relationship. It was a nice enough story, but I found myself speeding up the narration to finish it quicker. 🤷🏻‍♀️🎧

February 27, 2021 Whoa. Tomorrow is the last day of February!! Where did February go?! It came and went. Anyway, I am going to start readjng How to Fail at Flirting by Denise Williams. Then I plan to read my first memoir ever The Meaning of Mariah Carey. Can't wait Listers... Bye

Such an awesome read. I loved the characters and storyline. The author did a great job with flashbacks and character development. I had the audiobook and loved it.

How to Fail at Flirting was an unexpected love for me. 💕

The romance between Naya and Jake is sweet and steamy and the dialogue gets pretty real and raw. This book takes on the heavy topics of domestic violence and emotional abuse with such care. I highly recommend! 💕

This was oh so good. A controlling abuse ex that comes back into Naya's office after she if finally starting to move on and get over the damage he caused.

I absolutely fell in love with this book! I couldn‘t put it down and it was a good reminder that there are good guys out there! 💖

Only a few pages into meeting Jake and I love him already.

I found parts of this book to be cute and it was definitely fast paced. I felt kind of distanced between the characters and was wanting more. I felt like the dates were cut short and that it was more focused on their sexual relationship. It‘s still good and I recommend it.

This contemporary romance had a more serious backstory than I‘m accustomed to so I‘ll paste the author‘s content warning at the end of my review.

Naya is tenure-track in a department that may be cut from her institution and she‘s all about her job. Her friends make a flirting checklist for her to get back out there, and well, some people just need a checklist.⤵️ #romantsy

I‘m really enjoying this one so far. There‘s some less light stuff here (triggers for domestic abuse), but it also has lots of joy and especially nerdy puns. A college prof and list maker falls for a dude at a bar, who turns out to be... anyway no spoilers! A good contemporary romance to keep you company during the winter.

I‘ve got a super fun event tomorrow, and I‘m going to spend today highlighting some of the amazing authors who are joining me for it. No readings, just fun holiday stuff and book chat.

Denise is a debut romance author (as of this past Tuesday!) Her novel has gotten lots of well-deserved buzz.

Naya and Jake‘s relationship starts as a cute romance, but serious issues are presented in How to Fail at Flirting. Naya‘s last boyfriend was abusive. The abuse effects Naya‘s ability to become close to Jake. Will Naya‘s past break up her and Jake?

This had me unexpectedly emotional. I related to Naya more than I care to admit, & it had me crying. We are even afraid of the same thing - butterflies!
I absolutely loved the ease of Naya & Jake's relationship/situationship. Leaving a bar with a hot stranger to get ice cream? Best idea ever. And cheese puns & dad jokes are practically my love language. Combine all that with my love of list making & you've pretty much written my perfect Rom-Com.

I liked this one, although I didn't love it. The writing is good, and Denise Williams strikes a good balance between the sweet and fun in Naya's relationship with Jake and the seriousness of her emotional issues stemming from her abusive ex as well as the workplace conflicts she faces. The pacing felt a little funky to me with some time skips and I wish it hasn't been so instalove-y with her and Jake, but it was still a solid read. Out Dec 1.
