A #PetPeeve for me: authors not giving citations or a bibliography in nonfiction work! Especially in something like this book, which introduces socialism. I would love some endnotes and a bibliography + further reading/learning list! 😤

My ❤️ @CounterfeitNickel loaned me this & told me to read it! PROS: Very easy, accessible read. Snarky, conversational tone. Solid little intro! CONS: Katch *intentionally* avoids giving citations or a bibliography, which is particularly frustrating in an introductory book. Generalizes a little too much about socialists (a really diverse group!). BOTTOM LINE: worth a read if you're interested in socialism or want to talk to people about socialism!
Coffee and reading date with my sweetheart today before he flew back to CA! I started the tagged, which he recently read, while he worked on the other pictured book (tagged below). Katch is snarky and conversational, and it's an entertaining read, but I don't agree with all of his takes. #bookdate #coffeeandbook @CounterfeitNickel 🥰

"The best way to stick it to your Trump-loving uncle isn‘t to get into endless screaming matches with him. It‘s to turn his kid into a socialist." http://www.haymarketbooks.org/blogs/21-taking-socialism-seriously
As a previous Litsy review suggests, Katch is a strong proponent of revolutionary Marxism. He made some powerful arguments in favor of revolution, but I still see value in gradualism and electing Socialist representatives to local government positions. Ultimately, I do believe in an alternative to unrestrained capitalism. Think you know about socialism? Think again!
This was a really informative introduction to socialism but read with a critical eye. The author's preference for a certain brand of socialism is clear so it's important to ask yourself what kind of post-capitalistic society do YOU envision.
