Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust
Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline | Loretta Lynn
11 posts | 12 read | 4 to read
The Nashville version of Just Kids or Girls Like Us, ME & PATSY shares the never-before-told story of the remarkable relationship between legendary country queen Patsy Cline and country music icon Loretta Lynn. Loretta Lynn and the late Patsy Cline are legends--country icons and sisters of the heart. For the first time ever Loretta tells their story: a celebration of their music and their relationship up until Patsy's tragic and untimely death. Full of laughter and tears, this eye-opening, heartwarming memoir paints a picture of two stubborn, spirited country gals who'd be damned if they'd let men or convention tell them how to be. Set in the heady streets of the 1960s South, this nostalgia ride shows how Nashville blossomed into the city of music it is today. Tender and fierce, Loretta & Patsy is an up-close-and-personal portrait of a friendship that defined a generation and changed country music indelibly--and a meditation on love, loss and legacy.

What a funny and moving memoir filled with such beautiful stories and memories about the friendship between these two trailblazing country music icons! Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline only knew each other for 2 short years, but theirs was a forever friendship that changed both of their careers & lives. Delightful read! I had no idea author Shel Silverstein wrote several top hits for Loretta, Johnny Cash and many more.

MemoirsForMe
My only complaint is this hideous cover, which looks like Loretta and Patsy‘s faces were carelessly pasted on someone else‘s bodies. 🙄

I really haven‘t listened to Patsy Cline or Loretta Lynn‘s music that much, but this was still an interesting book. Lynn writes like you‘re having a conversation with her, & her friendship with Cline was a special relationship that we only get with a few people. Think I‘m going to see Lynn‘s home in eastern Ky this month, & I‘ll prob be listening to more of their music.

Current read! I'm so excited to read this one. I grew up listening to Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline (my grandma loved them).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loretta Lynn has written such a lovely little book about her whirlwind friendship with Patsy Cline. Much of this took place mere miles from where I live, and though I‘m not a massive country music fan, I love learning about the rich music history of this area. It‘ll come as no surprise that Lynn is a natural, talented storyteller. Her love and appreciation for Cline runs deep. A thoughtful memoir.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a fun book!! Loretta Lynn shared her heart with us in this book about her friendship with Patsy Cline. She shared the ups and downs. There were several times when I laughed out loud. But, have the Kleenex handy too.

Even though Loretta and Patsy‘s friendship spanned less than 2 years because of Patsy‘s untimely death, you can certainly tell tell that they were friendship soulmates. They were the same age, but the wiser and more world-experienced Patsy took the naive Loretta under her wing and boosted her confidence. A quick read that also gives a window into the country music scene of the time. Makes me want to watch Coal Miner‘s Daughter again. 3/5🎶s

I am listening to the audiobook and reading along. The love of Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn and their music and lives has been part of my life since I was little. A book about two amazingly talented women and their friendship? Hell yes! I have never read Coal Miner‘s Daughter, (watched the movie a lot), so I don‘t know if it retells most of already told stories. Seems like it, but I am still enjoying it. Page markers from Dollar 🌲 😀

As a huge fan of country music I absolutely adored the insight into the inner workings of old school Nashville and seeing Patsy & Loretta not as legends but as housewives, mothers & friends who just so happened to be massively talented chart-toppers. The idea of the folks I grew up listening to getting together for Sunday dinner warmed my heart & left me feeling the best sort of nostalgic and good even as tears were streaming down my face.

Their friendship wasn't nearly long enough but the impact they had on each other and the country music industry set a high bar and opened doors for many artists. In high school I visited The Grand Ole Opry and made many memories there. This book had me pausing at each song mention for a search on Spotify and old films of live song footage on Youtube. I read through it entirely too quickly. Patsy taught Loretta to drive, shave, seduce, and live. 5☆

SarahBradley I read this too and loved it. Makes me want to watch the movie. 5y
