1820, Charleston SC. Leon is a young Dutchman who flees his impoverished homeland to seek his fortune in the New World. Juliette is a slave girl. He buys her, sets her free, marries her and takes her and their kids to #TheNetherlands. In the mean time he stays a successful business man in SC where no one knows about his marriage and children. Their biography is a 19th century love story that conquers all, even oblivion.

It‘s the week of the promotion of Dutch books. It means that when you buy a Dutch book you are gifted the tagged one. Traditionally you can travel by train all through the country for free upon showing this book. This year that event has been cancelled because of #coronavirus. Things spin out of control pretty quickly and the media I have been so cynical about are even getting ME a bit freaked out 😫

merelybookish So much is not happening. And it's hard not to feel somewhat freaked out. 5y
LeahBergen Yes, this was the first day that my anxiety actually kicked in about it all. 😬 5y

BarbaraBB @LeahBergen Mine too. Also, the economic consequences seem enormous. (edited) 5y
Hooked_on_books Despite it not happening this year, it‘s a great tradition. 5y
Librarybelle I agree with @Hooked_on_books ...sounds like a great tradition 5y
batsy My anxiety truly kicked in a day ago. Coz it felt like we had a handle on it here then saw cases escalating after a massive religious event that saw like 15k attendees and people who had travelled to hot zones then proceeded to travel elsewhere with a fever 😟😟😟 5y
Cathythoughts Loving the cover of tagged book ❤️❤️✨ 5y
Megabooks For me, and idk what the health system is like there, we don‘t have capacity beds-wise, not just financially, for an 1918 flu outbreak scenario. That‘s why I‘m for people staying home. I know locally we don‘t have enough ventilators, and my parents are over 70. Of course, try keeping my dad home. 🙄🙄🙄 he‘s driving us bananas. But we shall survive, I hope. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 5y
