I'll See You in Paris
I'll See You in Paris: A Novel | Michelle Gable
25 posts | 24 read | 44 to read
New York Times Best Selling Author of A Paris ApartmentThree women, born generations apart. One mysterious book that threads their lives together. A journey of love, discovery, and truth... Ill See You in Paris is based on the real life of Gladys Spencer-Churchill, the Duchess of Marlborough, a woman whose life was so rich and storied it could fill several books. Nearly a century after Gladyss heyday, a young womans quest to understand the legendary Duchess takes her from a charming hamlet in the English countryside, to a dilapidated manse kept behind barbed wire, and ultimately, to Paris, where answers will be found at last. In the end, she not only solves the riddle of the Duchess but also uncovers the missing pieces in her own life. At once a great love story and literary mystery, Ill See You in Paris will entertain and delight, with an unexpected ending that will leave readers satisfied and eager for Gables next novel.

#IllseeyouinParis 2021 book challenge... January's Paris book was I'll see you in Paris by Michelle Gable. What an amazing story! Starting with a tragedy in the Vietnam war & spanning 30 years, this book is like a spiral... loosely woven & loosely connected at first & as each turn of the spiral gets closer & closer the story comes together more & more culminating with an amazing finish that will leave you in tears! (Continued in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy With an amazing finish that will leave you in tears! Build as a great love story and a literary mystery, Gladys Spencer - Churchill, the duchess of Marlboro, was a fascinating woman about whom this story was written. Written by The best-selling author of a Paris apartment (which I also read and loved!), this story will capture your heart ❤️ Cont... 4y

Librarybelle My copy of this has been in transit from Book Outlet since mid-December! One of the packages that the USPS is sending from site to site, haha! Once it arrives, I plan to read it. I‘ll probably get to February‘s before January‘s arrives. 😂 4y
TheHeartlandBookFairy @Librarybelle Oh my goodness, I've had a couple of packages do that circuitous route to my house as well! Good luck and in the meantime, I'm sure there are plenty of other books to be read 😊 FYI, I thought it was slow to start but boy once it picked up steam it got really good really quick! Happy reading 😊 4y
Librarybelle Haha...lots of books to read in the meantime indeed! Good to know about the start of the book. I‘m crossing my fingers that it arrives soon! 4y

This was a delightful read. A love story and the mystery of a missing/ disappearing duchess told through 3 time periods. That may sound complicated but it actually flows very smoothly. Thank you @FeatherV for turning me on to this book.

TODAY'S PROMPT: EYE SEE YOU

I am a little off with the prompt, but Paris makes up for it. :)

I'LL SEE YOU IN PARIS was very light and enjoyable with memorable characters and was well researched. I love the cover and the revelations at the end.

I feel Annie's pain (see image). I got impatient with the story too. But I was fond enough of the characters to stick with it. I didn't find it hard to keep up with the 2 story lines. Likable characters, fun place setting (old British house, old British pub), indulgent fantasy involving secret library. Not as lovable as A Paris Apartment, which comes down entirely to relating to that book more (& feeling more understood by it).

This was an impulse buy and a bumpy ride. the description on the back does not really match the plot but as I forced myself to keep reading I did get attached to the characters. For my liking the book jumps around too much and the delivery of the plot through one character telling a story to the protagonist is a little stale but I'm glad I finished it. Unfortunately I still wish I had read something else from my endless TBR instead. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been away from Litsy for too long - life has thrown a few curveballs! Here is to me coming back in full swing! I am making a move to Manhattan in a few weeks and I'm incredibly excited that my apartment is walking distance to this bookstore! They admit they don't have anything to do with the original Shakespeare and Co but still :) I just have to work extra hard on that self control when I walk past... 😉😳😋🎉🤡📚

Dogearedcopy I'm so excited and happy for you! 😘 7y

Enjoyable read- literary mystery, romance, based on real life historical figure, Gladys Deacon, the Duchess of Marlboro. She serves as an amusing, fascinating backdrop who drives the story of a mother & a daughter, stumbling upon & searching for her mother's past. At first I found the structure confusing ( fluctuating between past present, various characters' narration) but it was worth staying with the book as the mysteries gradually unfolded.

The book was actually pretty good even with its slow start. My biggest complaint is with the title. While I understand where it came from (it's a line straight from the text), i just don't feel it truly captures the story here.

"A brilliant idea. That is, aside from the aforementioned bullets, the barbed wire, a herd of wild boars, a few poisoned spears, as well as about a dozen other hazards. Other than that, a winning plot!”
