Go to Sleep (I Miss You)
Go to Sleep (I Miss You): Cartoons from the Fog of New Parenthood | Lucy Knisley
13 posts | 15 read | 11 to read
Lucy Knisley is one of the great memoirists of the graphic novel format. Following the completion of her pregnancy memoir Kid Gloves (and the birth of her baby), Lucy embarked on a new project: documenting new motherhood in short, spontaneous little cartoons, which she posted on her Instagram, and which quickly gained her a huge cult following among other moms. The best of those wildly popular little cartoons are collected in this adorable gift book, Go to Sleep (I Miss You), a perfect read for expecting parents, new parents, and anyone who loves funny, relatable comics storytelling.

It‘s a Christmas miracle because I finished December‘s #bookspin pick! I love Knisley, she is a favorite comic/graphic novel author and I like her art style. Her books are mostly memoir and this one has cute cartoons about being a new mother. It‘s short, sweet and I‘m sure very relatable.

Omg! I‘d never thought of that! Now I can‘t forget it!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I saw a great picture of that recently on Twitter, odd I know, but a bear made her den under a families deck, so they had great pictures of her nursing her cubs (which I had never seen before or thought about before either). 3y
JamieArc Bear titty video 😂😂 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa It‘s actually a really sweet photo. It started out as a thread from a lady with baby bobcats on her porch because of the heat out west, and developed into other wildlife photos as habitat changes (climate change) has pushed more of them closer to some humans. https://twitter.com/hollyannekeen1/status/1408698016685457413?s=21 (edited) 3y

Love love love anything Lucy Knisley does! She‘s my favorite graphic novelist, I just find her so relatable! This one is the shortest I‘ve read of hers. It‘s a one-sitting read about the wonders, and trials of the first year with a new baby. Here is my (2 years expired) youngest baby modeling the book 😆
The drawings took me back to life with a baby. And I miss it but glad that we are in the next stages of childhood 😊

New parents will find a lot of humor and a lot to relate to in this book of comics drawn on the side in the midst of the artist's first years with a new baby. Delightful and a refresher on how hard those early years are.

I ❤️ Lucy Knisley. Her #graphicmemoirs are so realistic. Every mom can commiserate as Go to Sleep (I Miss You) accurately portrays the sleepless foggy days, adventures in breastfeeding, being enamored with your baby, and all the other little experiences of motherhood. I recommended this to my daughter whose baby recently turned 1. Would be a nice gift for any new mom.

I adore Knisley‘s work and I‘m in the middle of the baby stage, so I‘m definitely the target audience for this one. She captures some of the more unique challenges of breastfeeding, a teething baby, your postpartum body, and other parenting paradoxes. That being said, the collection feels like exactly what it claims to be: drawings from a sleep-deprived fog. If you are just starting with her work, I‘d highly recommend Relish or Kid Gloves.

“When can baby help doing dishes?” The eternal question. This isn‘t as in-depth as Knisley‘s other work; she‘s been busy. It is, however, tremendously charming.
