The Crypt Thief: A Hugo Marston Novel | Mark Pryor
10 posts | 13 read | 5 to read
Its summer in Paris and two tourists have been murdered in Pre Lachaise cemetery in front of Jim Morrisons grave. The cemetery is locked down and put under surveillance, but the killer returns, flitting in and out like a ghost, and breaks into the crypt of a long-dead Moulin Rouge dancer. In a bizarre twist, he disappears under the cover of night with part of her skeleton. One of the dead tourists is an American and the other is a woman linked to a suspected terrorist; so the US ambassador sends his best man and the embassys head of securityHugo Marstonto help the French police with their investigation. When the thief breaks into another crypt at a different cemetery, stealing bones from a second famed dancer, Hugo is stumped. How does this killer operate unseen? And why is he stealing the bones of once-famous can-can girls? Hugo cracks the secrets of the graveyards but soon realizes that old bones arent all this killer wants. . . . From the Trade Paperback edition.

Finished Murder in the Sapphire & Night Train to Paris. Bottom row are books I am still reading. Not quite 20 hours but very satisfied with the amount of time I spent reading.

Hmm, not bad—in fact perfectly serviceable—but not particularly memorable. Two tourists are murdered in a famous Paris cemetery—the son of an American senator & a girl with ties to a suspected terrorist—and personnel at the American embassy investigate. There‘s some grave robbing, a couple of likable characters & a really strong Silence of the Lambs vibe but, as I said, nothing about the book stands out. Ok, but not great.

Summer, with all of its opportunities for (extra) reading, is no time for a book funk and yet I can feel one looming... Ugh! Seriously, this is no time to stare at the TBR shelves and find nothing that looks interesting. So, trying to hold off a book funk by doing something I rarely do—reading the second book in a series before I‘ve read the first. I think I picked this one up at BEA a couple of years ago. Fingers crossed it keeps me engaged...

This was very good. I'm really liking this series. Who doesn't like a good mystery set in Paris? I'm excited to go there in May. 💖📚🇫🇷🗼

A new beginning. Loved the first book. The Bookseller hope this one is just as good.
