I was feeling nostalgic and wanted something that would excite me like The Selection. This wasn't exactly it. I felt like the entirety of the book was just a vehicle to get the reader to the final scene. I'm not sure I'll continue reading the series.

I loved The Selection series. This one didn‘t quite measure up but I‘ll probably read The Betrayed for the continuation of the story and see how it ends up.

Loved it and cant wait to read the second.

This has been in my pile for awhile. Better give it a go, I guess. Cass has been recommended by my teen patrons.

Waited a while for this one and it was... meh...

So disappointed! As you can see I am a huge Kiera Cass fan! Oh well!

The Betrothed was an incredible book full of action, romance, danger, and leaves you wondering what will happen next. I was quite disappointed with the cliffhanger ending because now I have to wait for her to write the next book in the series, but I know it will be worth it.

The Betrothed is the newest book by my favorite author, Kiera Cass. I‘m not very far into it yet, but I can already tell that it‘s going to get really good. The main character is Hollis Brite who is winning over the kings heart. Even though I‘m only eighty four pages in, I already love Hollis and can‘t wait to see what happens next!

Book was super fast paced, and I didn‘t care for the love interest. But it was a good story in general

All of the plot was kind of pointless in the end and the characters kind of sucked but it was easy to read and I always love a good dumb YA romance.

I was so torn on this one. I wanted to love it because I love the selection series. But it just wasn‘t quite there for me. Some of the suspense wasn‘t suspenseful enough. Some of the story line wasn‘t realistic enough or jumped around a bit. Overall, I wanted to find out where Hollis‘ journey would take her, but it just wasn‘t believable enough for me. I wasn‘t invested in the characters or story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Started out as a book about a girl who is being courted by a king and loves it. But then she makes some new friends, meets another boy, and ends up starting an adventure.

SO glad my Libby hold came in EARLY so I am able to read it before this little guy decides to make his entrance!! He is due in 20 days 📖 👶🏻🍼🤰🏻

Thin characters, world building, and plotting and no real romance. Also, a slur, g**** was used twice, the first time when referring to a group of murderers, and why? Why was this very specific cultural slur needed in these two vague made-up kingdoms when we don‘t have a sense of the larger world or...even jf Cass didn‘t know it was a slur, it should have been caught by the publisher especially as it serves no purpose.

To be honest, i have trouble believing that this book “The Betrothed” was written by the same author!
I 💜 “The Selection”! The world, the intrigue, i liked the characters most of the time!
I also enjoyed the route the story took!

With this book not so much!
I grew bored quickly & i only finished it bc i fast played it on audio!
Hollis was a plain girl & it amazed me how she could have two men pining over her!

I won‘t be finishing this series!

I'll reiterate that it is not The Selection, but if it would have been published first it would have been much more well received. In comparison other than being about royalty/the fringes they are vastly different. Hollis is sure of herself, quick witted, and forges her own path. This first title in the series sets it up well for the duology or trilogy and my gut/and hope says some main characters will reappear. May be Naomi and Ruth retelling???

You ever finish a book and just... forget why you were excited to read it in the first place? Yeah, same. This one disappointed me. I love Cass‘s other books, so I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, everything about it fell flat. The characters were underdeveloped, the romances were flat, and the plot was just confusing. I want to read the sequel because I genuinely don‘t understand how or why the story ended the way it did.

this book was so disappointing!! it was so slow in the beginning and then it‘s suddenly being rushed at the end! the characters were so flat and we barely knew anything about the characters! and the relationships were so sudden!! definitely do not recommend :(

I remember reading the first half of The Selection and almost stopping. I was glad I didn't, as it got more interesting as reading continued. I gave this book the same consideration after having the same reaction. Unfortunately, in this case, my opinion didn't change. The characters and story are banal and vanilla, creating little interest. The love triangle has no depth and most of the time I want to slap Hollis for being both shallow and boring.

First of all, I want to say I loved all the books in The Selection. It is one of my favorite series and I love Kiera Cass‘ writing. However, with The Betrothed, the writing was horrible. It was flat and boring. It felt juvenile and amateurish, plus cringe worthy with how cheesy some lines were spoken by Jameson. There was really no character development with no building of the characters of what they look like, etc.

3) I am still reporting to work for even longer hours and attending college online
4)I just started The Betrothed but I‘m also reading History is All You Left Me on my kindle
