22 #78 I feel like the main character‘s modern day story line was weak. Very weak. The WWII aspect was more interesting but still I struggled to keep my mind from wandering. Also, I have no idea where the title came from.

Enjoyed this dual timeline book set in modern day and WW2 Paris. Harriet takes a job in Paris, learning about her grandmother Claire and friends‘ role as seamstresses and resistance fighters in the war. All the while Harriet learns more about herself. #AugustBookSpin

Harriet arrives in Paris in 2015 because she got a one-year internship job in fashion industry. In her free time she tries to find out what happened to her grandmother Claire and her friends Mireille and Vivienne during the WWII.
Interesting story and thorough background research on France in the period 1940 to 1945. Retells the story of women who worked for the Resistance and helped fight the Nazism.

Once again I have read a book set in two time periods and once again I think one time period was much better presented than the other. I still liked the book, but the uneven writing/storyline means it‘s not a pick for me.

I don‘t normally read so quickly but I‘ve finished this in 12 hours. This book had me hooked from the very start. I love the characters. The story however is so harrowing and it really had me shedding a couple of tears. Really beautiful story full of friendship, love, hurt and loss.

My current Book Club read. During WWII, Paris is occupied by the Nazis, three seamstresses: Mirelle, Claire and Vivienne fight for the Resistance.

I was very excited about the premise of the book, however I think the execution could have been a bit better. At about 6% in I became very excited when I thought I saw the direction the story was going, but then by 7% I realized that it wasn‘t going to quite fulfill my expectations. It was still a good read, kept me entertained, and even caused a few tears to be shed.

A moving tale of friendship, courage, resilience, love, loss and hope. I found it gripping, suspenseful and somewhat harrowing. It kept my attention throughout. I thought the two interlinked stories were sewn together quite seamlessly and I very much enjoyed both timelines. I liked the way it was told and thought it had a lovely, easy style. Well researched, beautifully written and nicely plotted with some captivating characters, I loved it.

Have you guys chosen your First Reads yet? I already chose Everything You Are but now I can‘t decide between The Dressmaker‘s Gift and The Vine Witch.

BookPixie I picked Everything You Are and the Vine Witch. It was a great group of options this month. 5y
Kaila-ann I went with The Dressmakers Gift and The Man Who Played with Fire. I debated for quite some time on The Vine Witch tho. 5y
rubyslippersreads I‘m having trouble deciding too. 😏 5y
