So fun to learn about Beverly‘s childhood and teen years. Echoes of Ramona and The Luckiest Girl.

Today would have been her birthday and it's the day we celebrate drop everything and read.
In honor of Beverly Cleary today I'm reposting my recommendation that you read one or both of her autobiographies. I read them both in 2019. Such an interesting lady! And the skills that made her characters seem real are on full display here as she recalls a multitude of details about her childhood and young adulthood.
Getting in a wee bit of reading outside while the light is still good.
Perfect morning to finish my first April #BookSpin read—It‘s Beverly Cleary‘s 104th Birthday! I guess her secrets for living a long & happy life are: have a sense of humor, share your love of reading and writing with everyone you can and always be surrounded by great books. Happy Birthday, Beverly 🎂and Happy Easter🐰 to all! @TheAromaofBooks @webhau1
I already ordered her 2nd memoir, the follow-up to this one. I can‘t stop now! 🤓
The coolest author memoir, a witty saga about sisters and another awesome Anne Tyler novel. I‘d say my #BookSpin Trifecta is a winner! 🙌🏻
P.G. was soooo close. Only one number off @TheAromaofBooks 🙃
Happy Reading, everyone! Be safe and well! 🤗❤️📚
The relationship between Beverly and her mother was very sad for me, but it was interesting to learn about the early life of my favorite childhood author and what it was like for her during the Depression. #AtoZLitsy (Letter G)
Day 6: “Father brought home two books required for the first grade, The Beacon Primer and The Beacon First Reader, which cost fifty-two cents apiece. These businesslike books, with the dark #greencover (s) lettered in black, were thin and easy to hold. I buried my face in the pages, inhaling the new book smell, eager to join other children in reading them.” #MagnificentMarch
When Beverly Cleary turned 103 last month, I discovered she had written, not one, but two memoirs. I finished A Girl from Yamhill and have just started My Own Two Feet. I recommend either of these books; the first covers up to when she left home for college and the second starts with her college years. I loved Beverly Cleary‘s books when I was younger. I‘m enjoying this chance to reconnect with her as an adult!
Goddamn I need to read this memoir so bad.

Went to the local half-price bookstore #bookoff and found some great additions to my #newbery collection, plus a few extras I was excited about!

Happy 101st birthday Beverly Cleary!
I live in Beverly Cleary country (Yamhill county, Oregon) and her books were an integral part of my childhood. I didn't read her memoir until I was a grown up though, and I loved it.

I read all of Beverly Cleary as a kid. I discovered her memoir much later as an adult and fell in love with her all over again.

#booktober Some unforgettable #memorablememoirs I've read over the years going back as far as Middle School. I still think about certain moments from all of these on a regular basis. @RealLifeReading
