pickIn honor of Beverly Cleary today I'm reposting my recommendation that you read one or both of her autobiographies. I read them both in 2019. Such an interesting lady! And the skills that made her characters seem real are on full display here as she recalls a multitude of details about her childhood and young adulthood.

pickWhen Beverly Cleary turned 103 last month, I discovered she had written, not one, but two memoirs. I finished A Girl from Yamhill and have just started My Own Two Feet. I recommend either of these books; the first covers up to when she left home for college and the second starts with her college years. I loved Beverly Cleary‘s books when I was younger. I‘m enjoying this chance to reconnect with her as an adult!
Goddamn I need to read this memoir so bad.

I live in Beverly Cleary country (Yamhill county, Oregon) and her books were an integral part of my childhood. I didn't read her memoir until I was a grown up though, and I loved it.
