Amazing. I highly recommend for fans of true crime & mental health. Dr Adshead is a forensic psychiatrist &works w/criminals. She introduces the idea of compassion & humanity, delving into the psychology & humanizing these patients that we often label as unredeemable.

It‘s a difficult read at times. I can‘t say I felt empathy or even sympathy for all of them; however, I learned a lot & gained a better understanding of those who commit crimes.

Kristy_K I have an older version of the book as the newer ones have a new subtitle, Stories of Human Cruelty and Compassion, which I felt suited it better. 1mo

5 Stars • The Echo Chamber by John Boyne satirically follows the Cleverley family. It delves into miscommunication via social media, public image vs. reality, cancel culture, and identity. George, a has-been novelist; Beverley, a TV star; Elizabeth, an influencer; and Nelson, transgender, navigate fame and personal life, often clashing due to their echo chambers. ⬇️

suvata It mocks the superficiality of digital lives, the quest for fame, and how online echo chambers distort reality. In essence, it's a humorous critique of modern celebrity culture and the isolating effects of social media. 2mo

Taking a moment to brag & would love to hear what you‘re proud of—Two weeks ago I spoke about sustainability in maritime at 3 separate events. I was particularly proud of the Tulane Future of Energy Forum panel as the only woman & with three men who are CEOs. They took great photos, an event YouTube page with the 28 sessions & our panel made the cover!

I've been meaning to read this for a while now. I'm glad I did as it is certainly an eye opener. I do agree with the majority of Lanier's points. He certainly makes valid points on how much we have freely given away to social media conglomerates and what they're doing with that information.
My only niggle was the use of acronyms.

I'm leaving the mainstream social media sites in favour of BlueSky. I can't cope with the toxicity, misinformation and division anymore.

Anyone else on there? https://bsky.app/profile/alldebooks.bsky.social/post/3lbfvh7luec27

AllDebooks @kspenmoll @Cupcake12 it's a decentralised social media app, similiar to Twitter/X/Threads but leaves you more in control of what you see. https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/elon-musk-twitter-x-bluesky-threads-mastodon-... 2mo

bookwyrm7 @AllDebooks I'm not surprised, I left Twitter soon after Elon Musk's takeover, when you began to feel the changes. It's a shame, it was my favourite social media platform and losing it felt a piece of online culture was suddenly over. Nothing will ever be exactly like it again... 2mo
