Hindsight is a bitch. It is amazing that events like the recent billionaire space race show that we still haven't learned the futility of phallus measuring contests. I didn't love the art in this graphic novel about the first living creature sent to space, but I was impressed at how the author was able to craft an engaging story out of the tragedy of Laika. A sad story told well. TW: animal abuse and toxic masculinity.

This beautiful little book weaves together the stories of Korolev, Laika, and lab tech Yelena Dubrovsky, highlighting the themes of loyalty and determination.

Hoping that some more #spaceracereading will arrive soon.

This book was so sad! I didn't love the art style but the way it was written really made me feel for Kudryavka (Laika) and her trainer Yelena. The Russians really shouldn't have rushed this mission!

This book will make you want to grab your best furry friend and give them a hug. This was an interesting look at an event from history that I was vaguely aware of.

Laika is well reviewed and won several awards, but it didn't quite do it for me. I think since I obviously knew how the story would end, the whole read was kind of a bummer.
